Anyone got a recommendation for a small portable air compressor to keep in vehicles? I have a 20 volt dewalt for my truck, but would like something that cost less and runs off 12 volt DC.

Your dewalt should have an adapter to run off of 12v.
I have tried others but for a portable it is hard to beat the dewalt.

I love my dewalt, but I'm looking to buy them for the wife and kids, not looking to spend $100 x 5 on the air compressors. I'm more in the under $50 range for each unit.

I have one made by Slime. It has a replaceable large bottle of tire sealant on it. Can use as a straight compressor. Wish it pushed a higher volume of air.
It got me rolling on the Highway the other night in ten minutes.

Why not just change the tire? If I was going to have a 12 volt tire pump that runs off the battery I’d get one of those all in one things that jumps the battery and has its own battery. Or honestly I can get tow service through my insurance for like $50/ year and they will change tires.

Just changed a tire on the side of I-20 south of Jxn, bad experience, you wouldn't believe the number of drivers who don't pull over in the left lane, even if they have plenty of opportunity. AAA/Tow services are great but not always available in a timely matter.

I asked myself this same question in 2020 and bought the 18v Makita DMP180ZX 18V LXT Lithium-Ion Cordless Inflator ($85 on Amazon) and the DM18M Battery Adapter for Milwaukee to Makita Battery, for Milwaukee 18V ($20 on Amazon) so I could use the battery on my Milwaukee impact driver already in my trunk to run it. It is a very nice unit and I have been pleased, although I have never had to use it in an emergency, praise The Lord.

Tire sealants are a very bad idea if you have tire pressure sensors. The sealant gums up the sensors and those are expensive to replace.

You are correct. I’m willing to give one up to get off of the interstate at night. I think it cost about Twenty bucks. I can reprogram my own.

Love my ViAir. The pressure gauge actually works. Connects to battery. Sturdy. Stows away nicely in its carry bag. Hose is long. Bought extension hose for RV use. It’s not unnecessarily loud as shite.

He wants them for all of his cars, not one for his house.
Down vote away guys that’s fine, there’s almost no reason to have just a tire pump in the car for emergencies. The chances of having a flat that can be fixed is extremely small.
Like I said, they sell car battery jumper, tire inflators, and flashlights among other tools all in one for about $100. If I was going to buy something to keep in a car I’d at least get that it covers multiple basis.

I've been having this one (well, the older version) in my truck since about 2015. Works just fine for airing up tires.
