My Briggs & Stratton starts on the first pull.

Bought a Troy Bilt TB240 for my folks. Has a Honda engine.
No problems yet. Built sturdier than most other brands I've seen.
I have that model. No problems after 3 years. Just clean out The carburetor after every mowing season.

Did anyone mention the Honda yet?

My Briggs & Stratton starts on the first pull. It's after I stop to refuel or empty the bagger that it won't restart for 30-45 minutes. Nobody has time for that shite.
Quit bagging. My first one was from Sears and I bagged back then. I had to empty the thing 3-4 times every time I cut. I took that off and put the mulching cover on and haven't looked back. I can cut my front and back on a full tank of gas with some leftover. Knock it out in about 45 minutes.

To that end, I too have an old Honda, 3 speed self propelled, that I bought in 2002. Engine is bulletproof, runs every season, 1 or 2 pulls; I think I've only changed the oil like 3 times...ever.

Try to look at your lawnmower purchase as a 10 year purchase. If its 400 then it 40 bucks a year. Makes getting a better one easier.
Follow the maintenance schedule and run ethanol free gas.
