When it is time to actually hunt..... less calling will bring in a tom vs. calling to much. Use mostly soft call at first and wait 15 to 20 minutes before making any more calls. If you know there is a Tom in the area, wait longer to call again.
It’s all situational. They’ve proven that you can’t technically “over call.” If hens are in the vicinity then you absolutely have to do something to get his attention. But I agree that less is generally better for a curious Tom.

On public land, you can. They'll shut down quick with all that TV racket.
Which is why, if on public, you best off not trying to pull him off those hens, or aggravate the hens. That issue usually surfaces in early season, when hens are not setting on nests.
On public, best not make all that racket. Put more time in to learn travel patterns. Evening ambush. Since a management stragety in LA is to open the season late, the hens are not far from sitting anyways. So some early morning yelps will do.
Now, you March 15 Mississippi boys, well, have at it. idk
There is no proving by contemporary trend hunters. Long ago, when t hunting was not in the spotlight, just a small group of woodsmen pursued them. And these guys were the mentors, they knew turkeys. The trend chaser TV guys want to use calls alot. To keep the program interesting , and to satisfy sponsers ( call makers ). They race ahead and declare new info discovered, so that trends become more " noise making" .
You have to put all that away, and go back to the roots. People that never sought stardom. Woodsmen, that became the turkey.

I remember a few years ago, i just got really pissed at this old tom, it was last day almost dark so i did like a 2 minute crazy aggressive “f u turkey” call to close the season, basically a FU.
The damn thing gobbled like crazy and came right at me.

Just got it in today. Very soft purr. Like almost too quiet. But sounds great.

Would you recommend buying? I'm looking at some new calls now so it doesn't get to be a week before opening day next year and I'm looking at calls online

It’s definitely low volume. Which is probably good for me. It’s a smaller slate too. But yes. I think it’s good to have this in your arsenal
Gimme your email and I’ll send you a voice note of what it sounds like if you want.
