I holler, "MARTHA" and the kids came running out to hug me.
The water had dropped 8 inches since the day before.

Only thing I can see is the chicken jumped in the bayou on some water lilies to get a bug and swam to the wharf for cover. The water was so high I couldn't see under the wharf. So Martha spent around 36 hours in Bayou Lafourche without getting eaten by an alligator. I think I am going to change her name to LUCKY.

Thats awesome. Glad Martha came back home.

layers that aren't laying aren't paying rent. Gotta evict them.

Did this over the weekend. Still not done with it, need to put a door on the run and finish trimming it out.

Try this again

You must be raising Ayam Cemani to build a coop like that. My 12 chickens have a 5x10 area of a dog pen wrapped up with sheets of tin roofing to sleep/lay in, and I thought I thought I spent on too much on it.

I do have a decent yard for them to roam in though.

Thank you. Really didn't take me too long. Have a few other small things to do but nothing huge.

My newest news is I got myself my first Jumbo egg.

I weigh all my eggs just because I'm pretty obsessed with my eggs... At this point most of my eggs have been between 43g and 60g, but last week my Rhode Island Red laid a 77g egg! It is huge. 70g is considered "jumbo" so it exceeds that by 10%. I'm guessing it will be a double yolk but I haven't eaten it yet.

I'll have to snap a picture of it compared to her normal eggs when I get home.

Awesome coop! Here's an unfinished picture of the one I built for my wife since it was never posted in this thread...as of last week we officially have 5 of our 8 hens laying now.

It's been months since I've touched it, I really need to get out there and finish up all the trim work and window covers

I like that. My FIL has one that's similar. Just too tall for what I needed.

Well, we lost our first hen this afternoon. Not gonna lie, slightly depressing seeing my wife upset about it. RIP Sophia

We are really not sure, she had been sick for a little while with what we thought was "fowl pox" and then developed some fluid/puss build up behind her eyes so by direction of internet vets we attempted to get that puss out from behind her eyes and she started looking better. Out of nowhere this morning she took a turn for the worse and held on until we made it home from work and she died in my wife's arms an hour or so ago.
