The day I lose my first chicken will be a very, very sad day. RIP Soph

My Rhode Island Red, Tony, actually layed an egg in the nesting box for the first time today! It was her 19th egg and she finally figured it out. LOL

First 2 were smack dab in the middle of my yard. Next 16 were in a corner of my coop. Finally #19 in the nesting box!

Any pics of the inside? I'm looking to upgrade. Tired of moving this tractor everyday.

Here's the inside.

Can get some more if you like.
It was a swing, yes. My son thought they'd like it. They didn't.

ETA: they cabbage is gone. My wife read somewhere that they like playing with cabbage. They didn't

Lol, things we do for chickens. My daughter tried making one a shirt. Someone told my wife they like watermelon rind. I have been living and having chickens for 28 years and told her I don't know of anything a chicken won't eat.

How may do you have in that mansion?

I can for sure verify that they do really love watermelon.

They don't eat the rind though

They're just now figuring them out. I had to put them on there Monday night and I think they stayed there. Did the same last night.

Before that they just slept in a little ball in one of the corners.

I love your coop!

Mine eat watermelon like it is their job. I have random pieces of rind littered across my yard. I used to have a compost pile but they completely devoured and spread it.

I love keeping up with everyone's builds and chickens! I really need some new pictures of my ladies. They have matured a lot in the last month and I dont really have any pictures of them since then.

Nice coop bbvdd.

We have six chickens (buff orphingtons) about 12 weeks old now. Were supposed to be all hens even though they said they can only guarantee 93% chance of that. Ended up with 2 Roosters and the dominant one has turned into one mean SOB.

Anybody rehabbed a Rooster to make him tolerable? He used to be the nicest one and would literally come sit in your lap if you were sitting down. My wife doesn't want to get rid of him but he's about to go in the pot if we can't settle him down.

All you have to do is cook him. He will be more than tolerable.

Tell her that there is absolutely 0 reason to have 2 roosters in a flock of 6. Either offer him to others on craigslist for free or get rid of him.

The roosters will not play nice with each other as they get older and with only 4 hens they will wear those poor girls out like Russian sex slaves. The sad truth is more than 1 rooster for a small flock will do more damage than good.

I only have three. Two silver laced Wyandotte and a Rhonda Island Red. The RI red is the most tame of the three.

I want 3 more birds. Anothe RI Red and two buff orpingtons.
