How much of a pain was it to keep the rung material still while cutting out with the hole saw?

In hind sight would it be easier or harder using the hole saw on the center of a piece of 3.5" material and then just ripping it down the center?

Would've been a pain but I went in with a plan and it somehow worked out. I set the common board on top of a 2x4 and then butted a fence board up next to the common board (relatively same thickness). This allowed me to put the small guide drill bit of the hole saw into the fence board and get it to dig in on a straight path downward which kept it steady on the common board. Had my buddy holding both the common board and fence board down tight while I drilled.

I thought about this but I wanted to try and keep as much of the rungs a smooth factory cut as I could, but that would definitely work. Would just require some extra sanding.

Thanks, I'm looking to do something similar soon. I know with projects like this I always have a few things I look back and say I'd do it this way or that if I had to do it over.

Yeah man the whole thing actually went over pretty smooth. Let me know if you have any more questions.
