Would a Thompson Contender in 35 Remington be considered a primitive weapon for deer?

That’s a trickey one. In miss and La 35cal and single shot with an exposed hammer rifle is considered a primitive weapon.
What you have a a pistol that is 35cal and single shot with an exposed hammer??!!??

I know in TN the charge can't be loaded from the breach, has to be from the muzzle. Differs in other states though.

I have a contender with several barrels in 30-30 and 7-30 waters. I could get a 35 Remington for about $250. Thinking of doing that instead of getting a rifle.

I get it but it’s still a pistol and never a rifle unless it has a stock, maybe ask a green jeans. I think they have shoulder stocks for contenders. Check e auther brown company.
I have a encore with a 45-70 barrel that I bought back when it had to be 45 cal or larger then they went to 35 and I never bought the 35whelen barrel.
Copied from the mdwf
Weapons legal for use during the Primitive Weapons season are all archery equipment and primitive firearms. "Primitive firearms," for the purpose of hunting deer, are defined as single or double-barreled muzzleloading rifles of at least .38 caliber; OR single shot, breech loading, metallic cartridge rifles (.35 caliber or larger) and replicas, reproductions, or reproductions of those type rifles with an exposed hammer; OR single or double-barreled muzzleloading shotguns, with single ball or slug. All muzzleloading primitive firearms must use black powder or a black powder substitute with percussion caps, #209 shotgun primers, or flintlock ignition.

I would pick up a single shot .45-70.
