If someone was a cop in the past do they have to have a CCL or can they still carry without a CCL even if they are no longer working as a policeman?
TIA

I would think the perks of being a cop leave with the badge.

I believe they have to have a CCL, which would probably be extremely easy for them to get considering all the training they've received.

It depends... if you work long enough, so departments offer retirement commissions. You still have to go every year and qualify to keep it active.

I always thought that retired LEO could maintain the ability to carry concealed, as long as they left service honorably, so to speak.
I'm sure someone will chime in though, if not, I bet it's been discussed before on Bayoushooter. There are plenty of LEOs on that site.

He was only a cop probably 10 years or so. He did not retire.

Yep once they retire they can carry without a concealed carry permit bu they have to keep up the Post certifications every year.
If the person just up and quits Law Enforcement it's not gonna apply an they'll be just like anyone else.

So then I guess my answer is no. I have a buddy like this. He is no longer a cop, did not retire but wears his gun everywhere on his hip under a shirt and it is extremely noticeable.

Here's the portion the applicable LA state law. Click the link for the full statute.
(2) The provisions of this Section except Paragraph (4) of Subsection A shall not apply to any law enforcement officer who is retired from full-time active law enforcement service with at least twelve years service upon retirement, nor shall it apply to any enforcement officer of the office of state parks, in the Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism who is retired from active duty as an enforcement officer, provided that such retired officers have on their persons valid identification as retired law enforcement officers, which identification shall be provided by the entity which employed the officer prior to his or her public retirement. The retired law enforcement officer must be qualified annually in the use of firearms by the Council on Peace Officer Standards and Training and have proof of such qualification. This exception shall not apply to such officers who are medically retired based upon any mental impairment.

We try to refrain from this sort of stuff here on the OB. But since you already threw it out there its time to tell your story.
