PSA: Never use Tackle Direct to purchase fishing equipment

I was in the market for a new pair of Costas and I found the pair I wanted at a steep discount on TackleDirect.com. It said they were in stock so I placed the order and was charged immediately, as expected. I received an e-mail the next day stating they were on back order, wouldn’t know when they’d ship etc. that’s all fine, but I tried emailing customer service regarding a timeline, no response. I tried calling during business hours and was on hold for an hour, no response. I left my contact info for them to call me back, no response. I emailed the manager, no response. I did a little research on Google and found that these guys have a bad history the last year or so of not responding to customers, not sending full orders, and they notoriously post hot ticket items at steep discounts to lure you in to buy, but then inform you that the item isn’t in stock. Reviews were indicating that some orders were sent piece meal, damaged, and took longer than 30 days. They never update the order status page on their site. I had to call chase to dispute the transaction to cancel my order, and that involved an hour on the phone too. I ended up buying the sunglasses from a different website on Monday and they will be at my house Thursday. Cost me about $25 more, but it’s worth it. Buyer beware, Tackle Direct is fricking awful.

maybe you should research the retailer before you buy, Karen.

I've had no issues with them

This is a recent issue since July, it seems.

Their google reviews look good, suspiciously good. There’s 400 or so and they have 4 stars, but if you review the individual reviews, they have many being done recently that all say 5 stars that appear to be an effort to bury the shitty reviews, and their responses to the bad reviews are laughable. One just said “Ouch! Sorry that happened.”

I've ordered from them several times recently and only had 1 issue. Shipping has been a little slower than usual due to the covid crap, but that's also stated on the website. Only issue I had was one order I got the wrong breaking strength leader material, took a couple days to hear back but got the right one sent out for free after they did respond.

Have also had good experiences with them. Last one I ordered a rod that wasnt what I thought it would be, return went smooth and refund was issued within 2 days of them receiving the rod back.
Would deal with them again.

They must be good, the Wicked Pissah on Wicked Tuna has tackle direct stickers on it's windows. Certainly Paul He-Bert only uses the best.

I gotta ask...I hear this from folks all the time who have fricked up their lives and can't find a job outside of the service industry....but is it expected that a consumer should pay for a service or an item and be satisfied regardless of what kind of service or item they receive and just shut the frick up about it? Is it Karenesque to do otherwise cause I gotta say that is some sho nuff backward assed pussy thinking right there.....there is no need to be ugly if the service or item is not up to expectations but simply accepting anything that somebody decides is OK is just stupid. Say I order an cold amber ale and the server brings me a room temperature IPA...am I supposed to just pay for it and either drink it or not and shut the frick up or is it acceptable to mention to the server that this is not what I ordered? Again, I don't mean saying something like "you fricking retard this ain't what I ordered" but more along the lines of "excuse me...this is not what I ordered"....is both responses Karenesque or is it ever OK to expect to receive what you paid for....

That's quite arrogant of you to assume everyone in the service industry is some kind of loser. Damn. So aristocratic.

Another arrogant way of correcting a problem. First of all, a room temp IPA is closer to the temp an IPA is supposed to be consumed. When it is ice cold, all you taste is bitterness. Let it warm up, all those cool flavors you read about actually come to life. But I digress. Second of all, the proper way to address the situation is to tell the server "I ordered a shite beer but you brought me a premium product, I would love to drink this beer as long as you only charge me for the shite beer I actually ordered. [then laugh and raise your eyebrows so the server knows you are a happy friendly guy, and not just an a-hole].

That's what I thought...just shut the frick up and accept whatever you get, frick wad....you think I want to be here???? Jesus this country is frickED....
You know I see that you are absolutely correct.....I think it would be even nicer if we simply walked in to a business and handed them a credit card....no discussion about what you are there for, just fork over the card and let them give you whatever the frick they want and charge you whatever the frick they want....that's a far better way of conducting commerce than simply and politely telling them they made a mistake....cause that might hurt their feelings and that is unfair and unbalanced...

This only applies to people in the service industry who obviously do not think it is fair that they have to work for a living and do not give a tinkers dam if they provide what they are being paid for or not.....that is the only kind of a-hole who could possibly be upset if an something is not right and someone politely points it out.

But see here is the problem....if they do not want to sell the product as ordered all they got to do is tell the customer that...most restaurants and vineyards will not chill a cab for instance...they of course do not sell you a bottle and serve it and then tell you that they actually do not sell what you ordered...they tell you upfront you can't get that here. I understand that micro breweries tend to see themselves as artists when in fact most can't brew anything that would come close to a beer in most of the civilized world. As such I am sure they are convinced that they know how their creation is best consumed to enjoy it to the fullest. Again, I am good with that...just tell me up front that you do not sell what I ordered. Most likely I will make another selection and if not I will simply go elsewhere.
By the way warm IPA only tastes a little less like the arse of a homeless woman that chilled IPA does. I will bet you know a bunch of 'em by name LOL...and by bottle art LOL...and 99% of them are swill and the brewer knows it.

Probably their employees doing the 4 and 5 star reviews under fake names

My guy, you have been quite opinionated as of late. I understand that this is a public forum, but your rants are getting intolerable.

I have not bought from them in years probably goes back to early 2000’s.
When I did it was for the old Fin-nor’s after most retailers sold out. I had to wait for what I wanted which I understood. Did take a Factory refurbished Fin-nor which was fine.
