re: PSA: Don't buy guns at Academy

Tried to buy a pistol from academy a few years back, in my home state, Louisiana. The sales lady in making small talk earlier asked what I did and I said I "moved here" (then corrected myself and said I am staying here for a few months to train for a job back home but I'm from a town not too far away, as my license said) and staying at a sibling's house temporarily.

Then she wouldn't sell me the gun bc she said I was currently living in Shreveport and my driver's license didn't say that. I told her it didn't matter where I lived in La, I could buy a gun anywhere in the state, and technically they could use my CCL as the background check to expedite it (or at least at that time shops could). She refused. I told her I was going to another store. Went to Ron's guns in Bossier and got it cheaper and met some nice baws, that I ended up doing business with when I was in that area. Anyways, went back to Academy the next day and made sure to tell her that all worked out and their prices were high.

So this story doesn't surprise me.

ETA: I buy stuff and ammo from Academy if I am near one. But I am a strong proponent of buying from family owned shops, as if we don't one day we will wake up and there won't be any. Even if it is a little extra every so often (but if they get to know you, they will usually come down on prices at the mom and pops).
