So, it's happened twice that we know of recently???
And they say leaving weapons in your vehicle is dangerous.

My guess is he left it on edge of truck bed or hood after checking in or out. And drove off

I have found 2 guns randomly before.
Found a old Winchester Model 94 30-30 leaning against a scrub cedar in west texas hill country that looked to have been there for many years. Tree had started to consume the top inch of the barrel. It was on a random hill side at least 2 miles from any trail or ranch road.

Other was a HK SBE leaning against a small oak on a levee in the marsh. Hadn't been there long at all and no one would claim it when we ran the numbers. Feel it was poachers and they didn't wont to be caught.

I can never understand all these sherburne hunters using 6.5CM and 300WM when they should be using 30-30 and 444s.

That or everyone that hunts in there just sits on the PL.

I did it in college. I was filthy after a wade hunt at Catahoula. In my haste to change out of those muddy clothes, I laid my gun against my truck. I then got distracted by the steps I had to take. Drove off. Drove right back after I got home and it was already gone.

what benefit would a 30-30 have over a 300 wm? I can understand the .444...it's what i use there.

You are likely to not get full expansion of the bullet with the close shots in there and its just way overkill imo.

300wm would be a lot of gun for the woods where most shots are 50-75 yards and closer. At that distance, the bullet is traveling so fast it doesn't have time to expand and expend its energy. Doesn't stop a lot of baws from using it though.

gotcha. I shoot a .308 or a .444. even at close ranges the .308 expands with a powerpoint bullet.
