no power(35hp motor), the reverse constantly goes out in them, and they stay in the shop
What makes the Pro Drive with same motor more powerful? Gears?

Maybe, all I know is that we have 4 boats, two gator tails and two pro dives, and the pro drives run circles around the gatortails, in power, speed, and reliability.

To each his own. A lot depends on the marsh area you plan to use it.
Down here in Lafourche or terrebonne a GTR is way better bc of the soft soupy mud. The GTR and mudbudddy can dig deeper than the PD.
The best thing about the PD is full power reverse. But it's not instant like the GTR.
Fastest rigs have been stage 3 PD on Gatortail boats. 40 plus mph.
I'm a Gatortail guy. Too many gears and lower unit issues on PD

I had a stage 3 PD on a phowler boat and I could run mid 30's with a buddy with me but dont think I would ever see 40mph. BTW thats the main reason I have two motors over one with a ton of mods.

I noticed both Pro Drive and Gator Tail are in Loreauville. Kind of ironic two very similar designs of surface drives come from the same town. Any back story to this?

I also hunt out of a 32 ProDrive and it's a beast. Buddy has a 36 PD on an UncleJ custom boat that is ssssick.
I've been in straight mud slicks in the PD and gotten out no problem. The 32 has the manual reverse that has full power and can get out of anything.
ProDrive is the way to go IMO.

Bourg I had an UncleJ custom. Good boats. Went hunting with that crazy fool this past weekend.

So for a Pro Drive, I would check them out at a local dealer and Gator Tail I'd have to go to there shop?

Pro drive guys thought they could make a better boat by machining it and offering full reverse. These guys are machinists by trade.
Gator tail is owned by an engineer that offered instant reverse. If I'm not mistaken they were the first and PD basically thought they could build the better motor because of it being machined and not belt driven. Kinda like Polaris 4 wheelers
Kyle Broussard owns gator tail and is a really good guy. Doesn't really mean shite but just saying.

the only gator tails I know are white and best served freshly cut.

I own a 19ft center console gator tail with 35hp and it's a beast. It runs 31mph top speed, steers great & drafts in about 4" of water. To look at the difference in a gator tail hull next to xpress or any other like that, there is no comparison!

You get that straight from Gator Tail or through a local dealer?
