I mean the japanese, are they as high a commodity to them as the Bluefin?
I would think so. That is where we got Amerian sushi(which uses yellowfin, salmon, white fish, etc.) from. Yellowfin are never shipped to Japan from the US from what I know but I do know bluefin are shipped over there because they like the fattier meat and bluefin is considered more of a delicacy over there. My parent's company used to ship a few bluefin a year to Japan but it was a risk. Anything can happen to that fish while on the way there and it depended on the meat color and more so the fat(marbling in the meat) content. They had a broker over there to handle the transactions and the bluefin would be auctioned off. I would venture to say that they eat a lot more yellowfin than bluefin over there though.

mean the japanese,
A lot of the fish they buy come out of maratime canada. They are caught in mackrel traps and are fattened up. It is amazing to see those things that close to the shore. They go on the boat and agree on a price with the fisherman, then the fisherman keeps him in the trap where the fish gorges on mackrel. Half is paid at this time and the other half is paid when the fish(es) are shot.
