We neglected our pond for several years and duckweed took over very bad along with hyacinth and algae. We manually removed the duckweed and hyacinth over the course of a weekend by scooping it out with a net into an aluminum boat and dumping it out on the pond bank.

what I would suggest for your minor issue is: Spray with Reward. Mix reward with water and dawn dish soap. It'll have the ratios listed on the bottle. You'll see noticeable differences in its color within the same days. Spraying on a bright sunny day helps as well. Remember when you kill aquatic vegetation it adds nutrients to your pond for algae growth. The best way to combat algae growth is with an aerator in the pond along with "cutrine plus liquid" pond dye to cut down on sunlight penetration in your pond.

On a side note, if you don't mind manually removing the vegetation that is the best way to go as far as preventing algae growth in the future along with still dying your pond. Algae feeds off the nutrients from decaying vegetation on the bottom of the pond. So if you can cut down on the amount of dying and decomposing matter the better off you are in relation to preventing algae growth.

Google using bales of straw to kill algae. It works but you have to have to right amount and kind of straw and you have to put it in your pond before algae starts to develop (Feb for my area).
