Yeah, I'm a little skeptical.

Another beautiful morning to work and no one showed up. Supposed to start raining this afternoon and have a chance the next few days.

As you can see they bought that grader in and really smoothed and bowled it out. I like that.

Here you can see, it looks like they are going to leave the floor of the old pond in place. It has a little hole on the end and an old stump cluster closer to the levee I assumed they would rip out. I'm kind of glad they didn't as I think this feature will be it's own anomaly in the new pond and be a fish attractant.

Here is where I get skeptical. The run around built at the far end near my truck drops the level of the pond much farther than I was expecting. Just by eyeballing it, it does not get up to the trees on the point. By walking into the turn of the levee at the deepest part of the pond I'm just under eye level of that run around. Thus, it seems to me it will be no deeper than 7' at it's deepest point. I would prefer that far end of the levee be turned and hooked back into the hill exactly where my truck is parked. It's an easy fix though. If it's not done, that is something I can do with the tractor and front end loader.

Here is where I get really skeptical.

This thing isn't going to hold water with a sandy top soil levee. I assumed they were going to coat it in clay. It's packed down hard. The smoothing and clean up of the sides makes me think that they are thinking this is finished. Also, I would have removed the 3 trees to the right of the equipment and removed that hill to increase the size of the pond. That is a hell of a levee for what is resulting in a much smaller pond than I expected. Surely they are not done as we still have 2 days of operating time left in the budget.

I would fell that closest oak treetop right in the pond and smoke the bremeses with a cane pole.

That's disappointing. However, if the levee is turned back into the hill I think you could raise it another foot or two to 8-9'.

That's another thing, they built the run around into the far drainage finger I wanted to catch. They are using it as an overflow...

No offense, but it appears you will have a bunch of highly unusable water with exceptions to certain times.

I totally agree. That's why I'm skeptical...

However, even if the guy says that's it. I think a lot of those areas could be fixed by dragging a box blade to deepen them. The use the material and front end loader to raise the height of the run around. Thus increasing depth 2 ways.

ETA: I lke the layout of the levee, he just didn't dig the bottom as much as I thought he would.

Where is this pond located? Tell him you want it deeper.

Sure made that dirt look pretty to still have work to do. I'd find out one way or the other.

Maybe any deeper and he's gonna punch through the clay? Only thing I can think of.

I'm confused. You're paying the guy to dig this pond. Do you not talk to him daily about his plan and progress? Did you not have a meeting at the beginning to discuss whats expected and design?

No, my mother is. It is located on her property.

I do not. I live 35 minutes away.

Yes. And he has been stopped and ridden around at least 4 of the 8 days to physically show and explain what is expected. A discussion about deepening and levee tie in is needed now.

I see what you're saying, too. That spot where your truck is parked just doesn't look "right" to me. I would want that levee/dam continued past your truck and up the hill, then feather edged til it was even with the rest of the dam. Have you got a transit so you can shoot the whole area as it is now and see where your water level will be at it's maximum? Also, I'd get some grass of some kind growing on that levee ASAP. Thanks for the updates.

Didnt they not show up a couple days? So those days would be added to the tail end of the original ten days, correct?

Looking good. I would agree with your sentiments, but it very well may get bigger with water than you think. Hard to tell from pictures. It's always waaay cheaper to have them do additional work while they are on site then bring the equipment back, so if you have any reservations I'd definitely discuss it with them now.

No, I'm counting days worked.

I realized I miscalculated. There has only been 6 days of work so far.
