Thanks! We haven't used grazon on it in quite a while. The goat weed is coming on thicker each year, but I like it for late season dove hunts. I figure we'll have to start bush hogging some of it in the future to keep it in check before it seeds out. For now though, those thick patches under those big oaks are deadly for doves come October-November.

Damn that pond is gonna be wayyyy bigger than I though. Is the water line going to be over that first oak tree?

It's looking good.

I think the first 3 seen in the pic. Either he removes them or they'll make stumps and fall into the pond, which wouldn't be a bad thing. But I see no way they don't get submerged around their base if left standing.

I'm hoping he pushes them over and scrapes that point to bowl the pond out more and increase the size.

I worked on a cattle farm for about 5 years, been about 6 years since then and I still miss it every day. Life didn't seem complicated then, saddle up in the morning and ride for a few hours or work cows then fix fence or top pastures the rest of the day. was nice.

Is there well water underneath the ground that he can pipe up to oxygenate the water year round?

There is a well up by the house and barns that runs on electricity about 300 yards away. We were discussing using it to fill once construction is complete.

I'm personally rooting for a tropical storm to hit SE Texas and park over us for a couple of days in a couple of weeks thus eliminating dealing with lay flat or poly pipe.

Small pipe from that natural spring will keep that water oxygenated and level throughout the year PLUS it super charges the water with nutrients and minerals.

Are you saying to tap into that same aquifer with a small diameter pipe and just let it flow 24/7 like an artesian well into the pond?

note he is talking about a natural spring and not a well, well water has 0% oxygen in it.

? haven't seen many graders used in building a pond. Hope yall aren't getting charged on per equipment used. I've seen some contractors bring in seemingly every machine they own to make a big show and also help make payments on things that are just sitting.

It's a set budget. So I don't think it's a head fake.

I haven't been out there this morning, but I assumed they were going to use the grader to smooth and bowl it out and to collect clay up against the levee to smear and cover it.

You may even end up with catfish whether you stock or not. It’s a weird phenomenon.
nah. I read it is from birds that eat catfish eggs from other ponds and rivers that come to your water and poop out the eggs.

Thats how all the ponds on the side of I49 after construction got stock with great bass. Red river was near and they got stocked just from that.

You'd think the stomach acid would deteriorate the eggs... I think it's more likely eggs stick to a wading birds legs that then lands in your pond dropping off the eggs as it brushes against vegetation and wood.

maybe so, but youd also think birds dont poop and pee out of the same hole but they do.

If it's going to be big enough, I'd leave the three tree stumps on a shallow island. I fish an 8 acre lake that's full of bass, and every stump or log (there are only about 4) is good for several fish. Leave the stumps about 5 or 6' high and push dirt around them so the island would be 4-5' deep.
Just my opinion. Project looks great.

ETA: Submerged island.

I was wondering how long it would take for you to see this thread. We ought to be fishing in this bad boy by 2023.
