FWIW, My BIL who is a master/licensed plumber, recently retired, told me a year or so ago that most licensed plumbers were charging between $100-150 per hour (New Orleans) - this was before the big run up in inflation. My BIL’s brother who also owns a plumbing company (also New Orleans) with several trucks and plumbers working for him apparently charges $135 per hour, as told to me by my SIL, and that was just a couple months ago. I’m sure weekend or after-hour rates are higher.

My dad has been a plumber for over 40 years. He still has to go sit in classes for days straight. Like earlier mentioned, it is pretty hard to get your master's license. You have all types of rules/criteria you have to meet prior to even getting your journeyman's license.

The plumbing board is just as corrupt in Louisiana as everything else. The ridiculous barriers to get a license are an absolute joke. They keep out competition so the big guys can make all the money.
This.
You have to do like 5 years as an apprentice before being able to get a license. No one can change careers and become a plumber. If I could, I would. But that barrier right there is what eliminates that as a possibility.

People want to talk about plumbers making a ton, but the owners are the ones doing well. I’ve yet to meet a plumber or electrician that looks like a guy making $150k.
Ummm, what does this look like to you?
I know many multi millionaires that walk around looking like they are poor and homeless. You are really naive to think money has a look.

In MS all you need is a 89 Ford Ranger and a Harbor Freight drain snake to do residential plumbing jobs

Working on a small cabin, price to plumb from the main to cabin, kitchen sink, bathroom room, tankless water heater…..4500.00$$. That doesn’t include the shower, commode, sinks or hot water heater.

I’m not going to go down this argument. My point is that most these guys without company ownership are not making over $100k. They are making like $35/ hour plus OT rates. The additional pay for after hours is mostly going to their business.
If you are charging $150/ hour and paying $35/ hour to the employee before benefits and expenses and then charge $250/ hour after hours then the company is making an extra $65/ hour while the employee gets $35 extra for OT.

The technicians in my business are harder to come by and the bests make about $35/hr, and we are charging $150/day. We're charging large industrial customers that rate, and the really big customers, like Exxon and Shell and Honeywell, we just charge a full day rate no matter what.
To think you can charge $200/hr for residential plumber issues is just ridiculous.
I had two plumbers come over and quote me to run a gas line in my attic to my kitchen so i could put a gas stove in and both wanted $1,200. It was less than $150 worth of material, and both said it would take them about 2-3 hours at most to complete the job. And i told them both, you guys are out of your mind if you think i'm going to pay you more per hour than a fricking doctor makes.
