Do plastic owls actually work as bird deterrents in a boat house? Damn sparrows are shitting all over our boats. Any other suggestions.

“A blend of peppermint oil and citronella is proven to emit a smell that is offensive to birds but quite pleasant to humans. Touch. The gel properties make Optical Gel sticky if the birds do touch it.“

Heard of people on Eufaula doing this in a sprayer

My father in law uses one in his carport and it seems to work pretty well. He's never had any birds build a nest under it

Sparrows are not protected.

IME owls work until the birds realize it is fake, and they always realize it is fake. You might get a day, might get a month, but eventually they will figure it out.

Had the owl decoys in a warehouse to abate the pigeons. They were covered with pigeon shite.

If you move them around every couple of days, it keeps the birds on their toes. They'll wise up eventually, so I rotate one with rubber snakes in my garden.

I’ve noticed a lot of these hanging in boat slips lately. We have an owl in ours and it does not work, so we hung one of these a couple weeks back. Jury is still out

That's not going to happen.

I have heard of people having success stringing fishing line up in a grid like pattern. The birds don’t like to fly into something they can’t see and they move on to someone else’s place. Are they sparrows or swallows? I would think they are swallows under a boat house. They are nasty creatures.
