Places to catch summer specks in a small boat?

So, I inherited my Dad’s 17 ft G3 Bass Boat, and finally got around to getting it tuned up, just in time for the specks moving out to the bays and beaches.
I love fishing for reds but my wife prefers eating trout, I’m not as brave as I used to be, plus I’ll have my kids with me.
What are some places in South East LA (I live in Thibodaux) where I could take them to catch summer specs?
I used to go out of Leeville on calm days and would fish around Philo Brice. I had the coordinates to some unmarked reefs, but I’ve sense lost them. I’ve also done the back side of Grand Isle as well.
Thanks!!

I've been doing pretty well out of Catfish Lake in Golden Meadow the past couple months. Summer still produces early before it gets too hot. I have a 14 ft flat bottom and take it all around the lake when the winds cooperate.

Weather dictates everything. With the right weather, you can fish anything in that boat. With shitty weather, the nicest and biggest boat its still hell. The places you mentioned already are as good as it gets for trout. Go to the island and play the weather. Good weather and fish the beaches. Shitty weather and stick the rocks/islands behind Grand Isle.

I had the same size boat a few years ago. Weather would dictate where I would fish. I’ve fish the Gulf side of Grand Isle, Fished all over the bayside, and various lakes below Terrebonne and Lafourche in that thing. When it’s too choppy in open water, I stick and move in the calm waters of the marsh. Hell, I’ve seen a 17’ G3 fishing the Mardi Gras rig. Personally, I would not venture that far in a boat smaller than 20’.

Never went to Mardi Gras, but I’d be lying if I said my Dad and I didn’t take it to Coon Point and Enstar a few times. There were some decent islands between Bayou Sale and Caillou Boca bear Bay Round back in the day. They’re probably all eroded away by now though.

Little Lake and Raccacouri around Leeville, Launch at the Fourchon public launch and fish the barrier islands on a good day.
