I agree that a Water moccosin has more of a ridged pattern. Exactly why I'm saying it's a copperhead.

I think we should just all agree that you're wrong and leave it at that. No need to keep rehashing this.

Look, I'm a huge snake nerd. It's not usually a particularly useful, or admired trait. But, when someone needs a snake I.D., I get to shine - to the general indifference of almost everyone. I usually have somewhere around a dozen snakes in my snake room at home. I have a shelf full of books about snakes. I have dorky videos on youtube about snakes in alabama, and of my own collection. I go to reptile shows. I go on trips specifically to find and photograph snakes. I'm a member of dozens of snake groups on social media. Just look at my profile pic.

I may not be someone you want to hang out with, but I can tell you the snake in the original post is a cottonmouth.
