I never really understood the whole "stopping power" argument. Are we shooting zombies?

I've always heard that the 40 is less accurate than a 45. No clue why. Just heard that throughout the years.

I have a Glock 22. Great gun.

I bought a .357 Sig barrel that I use when I keep it in my truck. I shoot the factory .40 barrel at the range.

Was wondering that myself. I bought my P89 back in the 90's. My reason for going with that pistol was it's price, good reputation for reliability, and similarity to the Beretta 9mm that I carried as my sidearm when I was a tanker in the Army. The 9mm is known as a very accurate pistol and when loaded with a good JHP round such as the Federal Hyda-Shok is very effective at stopping someone.

You trying to tell me that the 9mm isnt, by a large margin, the most popular gun carried by a hood rat? Because if you are, then you would be the dumb one.

The only thing I see in your post that is innacurate is you calling me dumb. Maybe you should go shoot a gun or 2 and come back. You might find having actual knowledge on the subject might make your posts worthwhile.

No, not zombies. "Stopping power" deals with the ability of a pistol to incapacitate someone. You see, contrary to popular belief, people do not just simply fall over when shot, especially when shot with a pistol. The smaller the round being fired, the less likely the attacker is to be incapacitated due to the small amount of damage the round does on impact. It is actually quite common for people being shot numerous times with small caliber rounds and still being able to keep going.

There is also the factor of the type of round being fired. For example a FMJ (full metal jacket) round will not deform much as it goes through a human body, especially small rounds like a .22 or .380 or very high velocity rounds like the 9mm. Also, FMJ rounds tend to follow a relatively straight pathway through the human body, further lessening the damage done by the round. These rounds tend to simply punch tiny holes that while may prove to eventually be lethal, do not immediately incapacitate their target.

The JPH (jacketed hollow point) on the other hand tends to deform more than a comparative FMJ as it travels through it's target. It also has a greater likelihood of tumbling and going on a non-straight path through it's target. These two characteristics of the JHP tend to cause a larger wound cavity, thus having a greater chance at quickly or even immediately incapacitating it's target.

These are all very important considerations when you think about the type of situation where you would have to shoot someone. Namely a situation where immediate bodily harm to you or your family is highly likely. Home invasion, car jacking, or mugging are some prime examples of such situations.

I have no idea what most hood rats carry. I've always understood that as the .40 caliber grew in popularity with the general public, it also grew in popularity with street gangs as well.

AS for my reasons for choosing the 9mm. I chose it due to my familiarity to the weapon. And I did not become familiar with it in any "ghetto", but rather from being a 19K M1A1 Armored Crewman in the United States Army. Being a tanker meant there was no room for M16 rifles so instead each tanker in the US Army is issued with a Beretta M9 9mm like this...

the Ruger P89 is a very similar weapon. That is why I chose it. Not because of some "ghetto" shite.

Most popular guns in the ghetto will parallel the most popular guns to law abiding civilians. Dunno if you know, but they steal them from people.

The most popular guns in the ghetto are the Larsen and the High Point.

While I carry the Ruger P89, my wife carries the Ruger SP101 .38 with a 3" barrel

She keeps CorBon JHP rounds loaded in hers. I pity anyone that ever made her draw it because she's a deadly accurate shot.
