Pedal conversion kit for existing kayak or relatively inexpensive pedal kayak

Anyone ever converted a traditional ocean kayak to a pedal powered one? If so, how did it work?
What’s a good brand for a relatively inexpensive ($1,500 or less) pedal/fin drive kayak?

Dont think that exist. I paid 1800 for my 10 foot slayer propel.
Have you looked into getting an trolling motor and just making a bracket?

I don’t see how a conversion is possible. I haven’t paid attention to the newest options, but all the ones I know of go through the middle of the kayak. They are built for this. You’d have to cut a hole and patch it. Just not realistic.
You just need to be patient and look around. I’d also make some offers, you never know. The new ones are insanely expensive I don’t really get it either to be honest.

there is no "conversion" its either pedal operated or it isnt because it has to have the molded in features for the levers and stuff to function.
if you want the pedal kayak it has to be made like that.
check the used market, lots of people buy them then dont use or like them and sell hardly used "still new" kayaks at good discounts

Hobie Passport is in that price range new. Pelican also has a model in that budget that copied the original Hobie pedal drive after the patent expired.

I wouldn't try to adapt a pedal drive into the ocean kayak, just sell it and put the money towards a kayak that was designed for it. You might get lucky and find an older used pedal drive kayak for that cheap...( LIKE THIS ONE! otherwise Hobie Passport may be your only quality option brand new.
I think if you increased your budget to around $2,000 you could get into something you'd be much more happy with on the used market.

As others have said, don't think there is a conversion. Anywho, thought I'd throw this guy's YT channel link in for viewing enjoyment. He is down here in the Keys, and fishes ALMOST everywhere with his Hobie and outrigger ( he also uses a regular 14' Hobie with mirage drive) and a 2 HP kicker. Interesting setup.
