I regret that I have but one upvote to give.
ETA: they all seem to be early when compared to LDWF's estimated breeding periods. The Evangeline Unit of Kisatchie is about a week earlier. Thistlethwaite and Sherburne are about a month earlier than the LDWF dates.

Definitely seems early. Says Bossier Parish is November 6-12 but they definitely aren't rutting yet at our place. I had a single pic last night with three 8pts all just eating together. Have seen a lot of deer this year and probably more bucks than does. Not a single one has been chasing.

I'd say it's pretty accurate based on known rut for my location.

Does that chart correlate with the area you hunt, beHop?
It’s pretty good with where I hunt in Ms.

Definitely a couple weeks early for South MS.

My bad sea pickle I tried to up vote and hit the down by accident. I hunt Washington Parish also and it’s right on. (Right around Jan 1st.)

This chart is dead on for all three areas I hunt in, two in Ga. and 1 in SC

I still believe the full moon triggers the rut as written by Dr.James Kroll from his research.Ever since his book came out I have kept a diary and have found the full moon theory very accurate. When I was still working I concentrated my hunting time for the 2 weeks following the full moon and my hours hunting/bucks killed ratio improved significantly.I also got a fetal measurement chart, killed about a dozen late season does and measured the fetuses and all but 1 were bred in 2 weeks after the full moon.Very small sample,I understand, and not the same results in the QDMA article.
The peak rut dates by county tool shows peak rut dates to be Nov.6th-Nov.12th.,I have been hunting everyday and what I am seeing doesn’t jive.I have seen does every day and every time there are 3 or 4 together and 4 times I have seen small bucks pestering them. The does don’t want anything to do with them.I haven’t seen one decent buck,I have some pictures at night.I am looking forward to next 10 days.

Good stuff, pretty accurate for pearl river county, Christmas time, new years, so fricking late, has to be the latest in the country or close to it
Eta: I usually plan as mid January for peak rut, but still pretty close

There has to be something more to this theory though, because there are multiple full moons in a calendar year. I've never read up on it myself, but what exactly is the theory regarding the moon? Why is it a specific full moon that causes this? And can the increase in activity be correlated to any other factor, such as photoperiod?

Definitely interesting and accurate for the areas that I hunt - but this is questionable science at best. They’re just using hunter activity (I.e. website hits/visits) and correlating peak traffic to peak rut. Interesting theory....

Deer are short day breeders. The reason the full moon triggers the rut has to due with melatonin production and it’s effect on reproductive hormones.Dark moons increase melatonin production which suppresses hormones, full moon decreases melatonin production and reproductive hormones increase.
The peak and intensity of the rut varies somewhat depending on nutritional status of the deer, buck doe ratios, temperature and hunting pressure.
The rut calendar by David Moreland in Louisiana Sportsman Magazine follows Dr.Kroll’s formula almost exactly. He never mentions the moon effect but it correlates almost exactly.
I’m not saying it works everywhere but it has worked for me where I hunt in Area 2 and I have been keeping a hunting diary for quite a few years.
