Heading down to Panama for a family vacation in a few weeks. Wondering if anyone has had any luck fishing any piers or surf fishing in that area? Any advice would be awesome. Thanks.

Honestly...you should just drop $200 or so and have a guide take you inshore fishing.

There are lots of good places around Panama City and the Tripletail should be easy enough to find.

The big pier at pier park seems to be pretty popular. I've seen guys catch kings and Spanish. Some of those guys are pretty serious with rolling coolers and rod holders and everything.

If you want to have fun catching simple fish all day, put a pompano rig on with dead shrip, throw right on the beach side of the first sand bar where the waves break, and you will catch whiting all day long. They fight pretty good on light tackle

You might triple that amount and then you would be in the ballpark.

I have been out with a couple of guys in the Mexico Beach area and they're both around $200 for half day of inshore fishing. If they're really good, they'll bring along a buddy so you can keep 6 tripletails...6 tripletails is worth $200 IMO.

I'll have to try this...I like me some whiting fried up crispy.

You will catch em all day long. Whiting sit where the waves break to eat on bait fish that got caught up and thrown in the wake

Pink banana jigs work good for pompano. Hooked into a big arse cobia with one, but couldn't bring it in. Bunch of hardtails to get around. Saw a guy hook a sailfish and literally run around the whole pier lol. Also, had some locals fishing for redfish at night with sand flees...whatever the fk that is.

Get a sand flea rake and some pompano rigs.

Also get some pyramid weighted rigs with circle hooks and squid/mullet.

I do know the best times they run, but pampano -at times- can be plentiful. You need a mole crab net. Just run it into sand on breaking wave, catch the mole crab. Best bait for pampano by far

IDK about surf fishing but I took my son out on the 5 hour trip from Captain Anderson and we had a good time just the 2 of us even though it was rough as shite. My goal for the trip was to see if he had any sea legs, it was a good test. Ended up catching about 12 small fish, enough for a fish fry. We will be there again on the 4th-9th and will take the 6 P.M. to 2 A.M. trip to try and get on some red snapper as the season will be open.

5 hour trip is $60 per person, we're going to do the summer special 8hr night trip which is $80 per person.

Captain Anderson's

I was in destin last week and fished in the surf. Only fished twice, and both times were in the evening right before the sun went down.
Didnt' catch a thing but something was hitting my line constantly. I was just using some Gulp shrimp and reeling in fairly quickly. Was throwing it out a good bit past where the waves were breaking. They bit 4 of them in half. hooked on only once and whatever it was fought like hell but got away after about 5 seconds. probably should have used a different hook and all but was too lazy to bring anything with me when I walked to the beach other than the rod and a beer.

Aka sand trout. Under a pound typically but if you catch one you can catch tons.

The pompano are great if you can find them. I couldn't last trip. Go to local tackle shop and ask them where to go. There is also a website about Pensacola fishing that can help. They did tell me try to find beach area without lot of people. Blue mountain beach by the 7-11 Beach entry is where I was sent. I got there too late had a bunch of hits no fish.

The piers can be fun late evening and night, lots of locals fun to chat with etc. bring some extra bait and they will talk to you all day.

Yeh, I use small hooks and the lightest weight I can get away with

We caught about 40 of them over thanksgiving and had a nice fish fry
