We are headed down to PCB at the end of the month. I want to take my son on a deep sea fishing trip (his first). I was going to cruise the dock the day before looking for someone wanting to split a charter. If I can't find anyone, how miserable are the bigger boats that pack a million people on the boat in assigned spots? The price isn't bad, but I am worried I am going to lose my sh!t with a bunch of inexperienced people fishing next to me.

Start calling the charters now and tell them you want to split with another group. Most likely others have done the same and the charter will make the pair for you.

I have bee on a couple of the cattle boat charters and thought the same with people not knowing what they were doing... but it wasn't too bad the deckhands keep a pretty good handle on things and it is helpful if you tie your own hooks with the weekend snapper open they get booked fast though ... caught a lot of grouper and some mangrove the key is to not expect much and have fun

Went on a charter out of Panama City a few years back used Killeen Time Fishing Charters 850-527-8347, we had 4 adults and 2 kids. Caught a limit of red snapper and on the way in and out trolled for anything that would hit our lines. Ended up with 4 half eaten kings (cudas) and a juvenile Mahi mahi. The kids had a blast and so did the adults.

I tried the same but waited to late. The Captain did call me back to ask if I could go Monday but we were already home. I'd start calling now. All the Captains I talked too said don't mess around with anything less than a 6 hr if you want to do a bottom trip. The Captain that called me back had a hell of a box, 12 snapper around 10 lbs each, some vermillion and a couple grouper.

Those party boats catch but nothing big.

His boat was the Transition, its an old lobster boat. His number is 850-258-4329
