Do any of you have any experience painting over black truck bed liner?

TLDR Version:

Installing plywood reinforcement on my front deck and back bench of my aluminum boat. My plans were to prime the wood, then coat with a roll on truck bed liner. Problem is that I do not want it to be black. I was thinking either grey or a dark green to match the boat. Have any of you painted over a black truck bed liner?

I am also having an aluminum floor installed, and plan to coat it with the same thing as the wood, only I will scuff it up good, then degrease with rubbing alcohol before applying the primer.

Any advice is appreciated. Any other ideas for coating the deck/floor are welcome, as well.

I have grey being delivered to me this coming Monday, but I've been reading bad reviews on it about peeling, etc. so I decided to go another route. I will be returning the flexseal.

To those mentioning colored truck bed liner: I already got the black bc it is much more accessible than a colored one, and buddy of mine told me I could just paint it, which would not be much of a task, I'd imagine. I want to have this done by the end of the weekend, so I dont plan on ordering anything. Needed something I can just go pick up.

Good luck getting it to stick for any length of time. Might try paint prior to liner drying when there’s still some tackiness. I can promise that no matter what you do it’s going to get hot as a two dolla pistol this summer.

The product's website says it can be painted. Best if painted within 24hrs of it drying to the touch. And if after that, just make sure surface is clean.

Very clean and then wipe it down with MEK to open it up a bit. Use an adhesion promoter such as bulldog (follow directions on the can) then get to painting. Should get a good 5 years out of it.

Yes. Well with the professional bed liner you can anyway. Good friend has a shop and they do this all the time with boats. Sprays the liner then comes over top with an automotive paint. I’ve also seen him do a few vehicles the same way. Hasn’t had any issues that I know of.

Update:

Painted on the bed liner, about 4 coats or so. Then this afternoon I painted the truck bed liner with grey marine grade paint. It has to dry over night before applying the second coat. Ill do that before i head to work in the morning. Once that one dries, ima flip em over and paint the underside. I probably didnt need to do the truck bed liner at all to be honest. I thought it'd be thick enough to get rid of the plywood texture showing through, and have a little texture, itself. It didnt get rid of the wood texture, and didnt have all that much texture. Im not that upset about it. It doesnt look bad. That wood wont be rotting anytime soon, either. Its gonna be sealed like a mofo

One thing i messed up on, i was gonna sand the edges of the wood before painting, to give it a more finished look, but i was too excited, i guess, and just started painting.
