is this the extended cab? my dad has a '15 extended that I drove for a few weeks. I'd think you would have plenty of room, its bigger than the previous body styles, you might need to have the passenger seat up a bit

yeah, they changed the name from extended to double. My buddy has the crew and said that when he had a double, his passenger seat was all the way pulled up and seat straight up and down and it still almost hit. It just got me thinking that either
1) back seat too small
or
2) new infant car seats are huge

Don't have a 14 or newer, but an infant seat fit fine in my '02 extended cab.
Toddler seat fits fine in my '12 extended cab.

The seat should be in the middle if at all possible.

if I have to go crew cab, i'll end up getting a used OB approved Tundra or F150, or possibly sierra or Silverado. Can't really afford a brand new crew cab at this point

I have a 2014 Crew Cab and even with the extra room, I still have to move the passenger seat up a good ways so my wife can recline the seat normally and this is with the seat in the middle. I can only imagine how tight it would be without the space difference between a dbl cab and crew.

I guess mine fit fine because it was between the two front seats.

Also, if y'all didn't already buy a car seat, get one with removable base.
Buy two bases and they can stay strapped down in each vehicle.

Couldn't agree more, my crew cab still isn't enough room. It's unbelievable how much room the F150's have in the back. If you have an infant with a car seat, I would recommend a different truck.

Do you have a '14 or '15 Silverado crew? My '15 crewcab has a ton of room in the back.

I wouldnt get the double if you have to put a car seat in the back. But the crewcab will be more than enough room.

there is evidence to suggest this isn't true. From strictly a laboratory testing perspective, it's absolutely accurate but what lab testing fails to recognize is real world issues and behaviors. For instance, evidence suggests that people drive much more defensively when the child seat is on the passenger side because they recognize the increased risk and adjust driving behavior accordingly. Also, due to seat design of the vehicle (humps and lack of the LATCH system requirement for center seats), you are much more likely not have faulty car seat installation in the middle position leading to an overall less safe ride for the child.

My company truck is a 2011 F150 CC and I think I have the biggest car seat on the market I guess, but it takes up the some amount of room in the F150 and Silverado. I have only used the company truck a few times to pick my son up from daycare so the base does not stay in there that often.

We have an Eddie Bauer Origin? I believe. I do know they make some car seats for compact cars and such but the are high as a giraffes arse. Honestly thought having a full size truck and my wife has a traverse, that we would have all the room in the world. First time I put the seat in my truck, I learned I was mistaken.
