Started off paddling for years. Made the switch to pedaling about a year ago and wouldn't go back, being able to pedal and fish at the same time while trolling a bank is well worth it.

hobie revo is 82 pounds rigged out and the hobie outback is 88 pounds. Compare that to a Jackson Cuda 12 (picked at random) at 74 pounds and the difference is pretty minimal in my eyes.
For me the feature I want most in a fishing yak is the hi lo style type seat. The lighter Cuda has that over the Hobie revo & outback.

paddle because it's a goddamn kayak

I believe the new Outback will have a height adjustable seat. Not sure about the Revo.

That's all fine and dandy. But that was just one of the reasons why I prefer a paddle yak.

If I need a trailer or need to travel far on the water I'll just use a motorboat.

We think alike when it comes to yakking

I have never had a pedal yak or even been in one, but there have definitely been times while trying to chase a red that switching between the pole and the paddle sucked and would have been nice to be able to pedal. I couldn't fish in a yak without a cajun anchor but I recently simplified my trolley system and still find them a pia to deploy. Would be nice to control my craft with pedals while fishing and not have to put everything down to adjust or reposition. So that's my take on it strictly in terms of fishing and not taking into account the many other factors already mentioned.

Okay guys
I didn't want a hobie for the longest time. Once you get in one and fish it's night and day
You are always fishing. This is the key. To hell with the wind and a paddle. I kayak fish. I don't kayak to kayak.
I'm pedal all the way if I can. Obviously 6" redfish ponds are different but then just pull em up and get out the paddle. Only sight casting then anyway

This guy gets it!
The only reason not to want a Hobie is because you haven't been in one yet or like DrTyger, you're too small to reach the pedals.

You get a commission for Hobie sales? Why can't someone just like the simplicity of a regular kayak?

allow me to get all hippy on you
I enjoy the simplicity of kayak fishing. Adding a paddle drive, fish finder, batteries, etc just adds more shite that I need and just means more stuff can break or go wrong. I'd rather just get a boat at that point. I like that I can "feel" with the paddle. Keep life simple. Say no to paddle drives.

Since when do all hobies have batteries and fish finders? It literally takes me 2 seconds to pop in and out my fins. Super simplistic

No need for pedals then. I fish everywhere in my kayak as a boat is not an option for me full time at this point

it was just a general comment about extra stuff

That is pretty hippy, but it's all good.
I have a smaller yak for when I don't feel like toting around the PA, and it's great that it's easy and simple. And there is something to be said for that. To me, however, there is no comparison. I love my Hobie. But I guess that's why they make more than one.

Don't let Doc fool you, he tried to buy a Hobie. But the poor little guy, his feet wouldn't reach the pedals.
Dave just had to go with peddle so he could touch himself while watching Magic Mike on his phone.

I haven't kayaked in a year and can't say I miss it much. Paddling sucks

Wow, I actually agree with Salmon on something.
