Mine needs to be replaced but can’t see spending $550 for the Yamaha part.

Anybody had success replacing one with a aftermarket part at a reasonable price? Amazon has them for around $100 but I have no experience with this and not sure if those are as reliable.

TIA

What horsepower? My dad has the whole trim unit from a 2006 or 2007 yamaha 50 that he has been trying to sell for a while.

D B Electrical, mark up on parts is insane and they source from electric motor mfgs. Have used these motors and they are fine and way cheaper.

I though I got quotes for the wrong part when I called. I was not expecting that much markup. That’s insane.

Thanks.

I priced one for my 40 and oem was $330 and the D B Electrical was $60. I gave the aftermarket one a shot and a year later it’s still working fine. Simple swap too.

I went OEM and paid out the nose on my F250 only because it went out right before a vacation and I found an OEM in stock in BTR.

The Yamaha is actually pretty easy to service as the whole bracket comes off the transom, then it’s only 3 bolts and a wire plug.

Was considering a rebuild BTR @ Davilco (or another alternator repair shop) or DB aftermarket. Think mine was $600, way too much $ for something with a 1-yr warranty.

I have an ebay trim motor on my 2006 F90 Yamaha. It's about a year old and has been fine. For whatever reason, ive had lousy trim motors. The first two were OEM Yamaha. Both were such junk that i figured why not try the cheap route. So the the third one is from ebay. With trim motors not lasting for me, I intend to buy another one just to keep on hand. BTW, OEM from yamaha will not be painted original blue. It will be unpainted black, same as the ebay ones. So the black finish of the cheap ones need not be a deterrent. From the exterior and without taking the ebay one apart, i can't tell any difference between the ebay and OEM.

Good to know. I went ahead and ordered one from Amazon at a savings of $390 from the OEM part.

Just ridiculous.

Thanks for all the feedback.

Got my trim motor replaced on 175 Yamaha last week. Did the aftermarket motor. Screw Yamaha and their $500 motor. Works fine so far

If your trim solenoid goes out I also suggest not spending 300$ on the OEM

Been thinking about rebuilding my tilt and trim cylinders on. V6 Yamaha. I don't know where the motor is never looked for it?

I had my starter rebuilt for $16 BTW works great and not $589 OEM.

Underneath outboard on your transom, round motor next to the reservoir

times, and prices, sure have changed
when my power trim assembly went out on a suzuki 40 it cost $1500 for a new one in 2007

i ended up buying a second hand unit for $500 to fix it

just goes to show how fast prices for things change with outboards
