The marginal increase in performance from a 40 does not come close to justifying the decreased mag capacity, snappier recoil, and slightly higher ammo cost.
That's interesting.

Glock 22: Ive heard nothing but good things on this handgun. Reliable and rugged. I have a Beretta px4 but want to add another handgun.
Nothing wrong with .40 caliber, particularly, but it's time seems to have passed. Unless you just have a burning need to stock/shoot the caliber, I would consider the Glock 17 for this role. More capacity, (generally) cheaper to shoot, many more available loadings and the terminal performance of the better rounds (the highly recommended HST, as well as about a half dozen or so others) of 9mm and .40 are very comparable.

Benelli Ultra Light Semi-Auto Shotgun or Benelli Cordoba: Dont currently own a shotgun.
Depends on budget and intended use, but Benelli is (or should be) the gold standard for semi shotguns - although they do come with a premium in price.

Armalite 15: always wanted one dont know if its worth the price though.
Not sure what you're talking about here - a "No shite" Armalite Rifle 15 (from Armalite or Colt, presumably)? Because, the M4 style rifles (not sure if the increasingly more common 16" bbl, middy gas system actually qualifies as an M4gery or has it become another gun in it's own right

Smith & Wesson M&P15-22 - A1 Style Comp Rimfire Semi-Auto Rifle: seen one for pretty cheap. just a nice looking plinker. kids could shoot this easily but I also have a marlin 22 that they shoot.
Or the comparable Ruger tacticool .22 LR which would be particularly appropriate if you already have/are familiar with their excellent 10/22. But, a great niche to fill - a cheap way to get trigger time with the platform.

I also prefer the Gen4 over the Gen3 glocks
I'm the other way - the texture on the grip on the Gen 4 is too aggressive, the dual springs is an extra thing to break, the enlarged fire controls (may be a boon to some) seems "anti" Glock - the big feature of Glocks used to be the slimmer, snag free profile.

I can take or leave the interchangeable backstraps.
I'm the same way, and for the reasons above, prefer Gen 3.
I will say the if the aggressive grip texture didn't bother me, then I would probably go Gen 4.

Cabela's has a DPMS Oracle for $499. I can't speak to the quality of the gun, I've never owned one.
It's a great gun. My son owns one and has killed deer and hogs with it.

Spoke with my Navy nephew a couple of days ago about 40's. Said they were testing different calibers on pigs for some type of medic/wound care training. He said you can't tell the difference in the damage the 9mm and 40 caliber do.
