The thing is you can build better for less.
I can't imagine paying over 1k for a stock AR15 platform rifle. There's things I don't need (upgraded charging handles..

Anyone have a retro ar build that H&R just brought to market? Saw them on the psa website and really wanting one to add to the collection. Always wanted an A1 configuration with triangle hand guard and fixed carry handle

The only subpar part I have ever bought was a lower receiver, in which the buffer detent hole was off. I fixed it pretty easily with an offset pin. Milspec and other standardizations mean you can get a really good setup for not a lot of money.
Put the money on ammo and optics.

quote:I initially heard of them, regarding 7.62x39 ARs. They were listed as the go-to to get the enhanced firing pins (slightly longer neck at the tip), that eliminate light strikes on the harder primers you see with steel-cased ammo.
Sabre Defence was excellent.
Never heard of Red X.
After swapping in their firing pin, and using Duramag magazines, my x39 AR runs great, as reliable as my 556 does.
I got into that caliber, because before the ban on Russian ammo, it was significantly cheaper than any other rifle caliber. Under $200 a case before the panic, still well under $300 afterwards. I bought a case for $270 a week before Biden announced the ban.
Now, if you look on ammoseek, it's more expensive than 223

quote:I did a google search, I can find a listing (now OOS) for them selling complete Sabre Defence uppers LINK, where they claimed that they bought up Sabre Defence stock. It's listed in the item description
That being said, I cant comprehend that there are any "new" Sabre Defence parts left unless someone just found a box in a closet or something. That company closed in 2013 and the assets have changed hands what seems like every year. LOL.

WE MADE A PURCHASE OF SABRE DEFENCE INVENTORY AFTER THEY WERE SHUT DOWN. THESE ARE ALL ORIGINAL SABRE PARTS, KNOWN FOR THEIR EXCELLENT QUALITY
This latest purchase, shown in my link in my earlier post, makes no mention of having Sabre Defence parts; so I would guess they're now just using up the remainder piece by piece. The 'X' on the top is in the white, so I guess they just machined that in to rebrand it.
If I KNEW it was going to have a Sabre Defence upper, I'd make another purchase at that price; but my guess is that it would be luck of the draw.

so are criterion barrels really the "go-to" barrel, or is that brand just a fad/status symbol as well?

People always told me that, but I there is no way to understand it without going through it. I’m in love with this girl and it’s incredible lol

criterion barrels
Criterion barrels are legit.
Chrome bore means they last forever and the accuracy is pretty great. They are also some of the best gassed barrels you can get... Add in that you can routinely find them for about $260-$275 with coupon codes and they're one of the best choices on the market, bar-none.

I’ve got a black hole weaponry on my 300 blackout and have zero complaints. It’s a tack driver with subs

Traded my Mossberg Shockwave in at the gun store for an Aero upper/lower. Threaded models, too. Only had to pay an extra $25.
One of the big stores in town have the BA barrels. Thought about grabbing one, but they’re on sell at BA’s website.

i must've gotten one those "out of spec" Aero uppers/lowers.
the rear takedown lug doesn't quite want to fit into the rear of the lower. its like they put too much paint or cerakote on it or something.

Did you persuade it with a rubber mallet?

If I did that, I might not get it back apart. I’ll get some sand paper and sand the coating off in those areas. Luckily it’s on the inside.
What’s an AR build without a little gun smithing?

I don't like DD either but do you really think budget brands like Anderson and PSA have the same level of QC?

Sabre Defence was excellent.
The original Sabre Defence guns and barrels were as good as Noveske. My very first SBR had a Sabre Defence 10.5” barrel. I put hard 12K rounds through it before the index pin broke. I replaced it with a Noveske QCB 10.5”.
Many Tier 1 SF units used SD barrels. The dumbass owner got caught selling machine guns out of the trunk of his car. Complete dumbass. I think the company was bought out of Chapter 7 but it’s not even close to the same.

I enjoy the entire process. Buying, assembling, problem shooting, adjusting. I cant imagine just buying a stock unit.
