so a 9mm will hit harder coming out of a 10.5" barrel. but there's not much of a difference between the 2.

I know it’s a AR thread but I love me some AK that I just picked up.
Zastava zpap with some blond maple.

5.56 NATO chambers have a little more free-bore and leade, meaning the bullet travels a little further before engaging the rifling which prevents a pressure spike. Also aids in chambering and extraction under harsh conditions. The chambers themselves aren't really stronger, it's more about reliability and preventing a case rupture or stuck case. Wylde chambers have the leade of NATO-spec but the freebore length of a SAAMI-spec .223 Rem chamber. Supposedly you'd have the best of both worlds but I don't think there are practical advantages compared to an number of other things involved.
I've shot 5.56 ammo plenty of times in a New England .223 single shot with a heavy barrel. Sometimes you would have to pull the spent casing out with your knife, usually it would eject it fine. Those rifles have a stout made ejector though, and it's easy to get your knife under the rim of the casing if you need to, I don't think I would try it on any other type of .223 rifle.

Picked about the worst time to build another budget lower but I'm tired of looking at them all.
Ordered a toms tactical build kit with nickel coated fcg.
I keep looking at this upper and I like it...but does anyone have anything similar in carbine length

1-4x28 1-6x28 or whatever you wish along those lines.
Way better than a fixed 3x.

First post in this thread. Anyone here shoot a .224 Valkyrie? Thoughts? Is it here to stay?

Haven't shot one but I think it's safe to say that it will be here for a while.
Good long range cartridge in a AR platform

Lord help if you ever have to use it for self defense. First they get shot, then their ear drums pop, then their hair gets burned off
Putting a full length one on a 16 inch barrel with a kinetitech shroud.
Just need to find a 16in stainless barrel in stock....

5.56 or Wylde chamber?
Honestly, it doesn't matter.
The only one I have found has been. Avery expensive carbon setup.
Not exactly budget rifle friendly.
