I have set screws on all of mine.
If needed and the barrel isn't already dimpled you could set it and tighten one screw down then then drill a small indention on the barrel.
My 6.5 isn't dimpled but I haven't found that I need it, yet.

I don’t think it is dimpled. I think it just has the channel that the pin slid through. I didn’t know how that and would play with either mounting options.

The dimple doesn't add benefit except for setting the gas block correctly. So, unless you have a jig that indexes off the gas port (so you know your dimple ends up exactly 180* from the port), placing the block where it "looks right" and then drilling a dimple only serves the risk of making it difficult to align your gas block if you screw up. Your gas block should be guarded by your rail, the risk of it getting off centered is almost nil.

Yea my block is under the rail. I’m talking my old ddm4v5lw and updating it some. New DD furniture, there 15.0 mfr rail, elftman trigger, and the adj gas block. I have never swapped a gas block myself.

Regarding AR-10s, I'm looking at a few and struggling on which to buy. I have an Armalite DEF10 and a gen 1 DPMS lr-308. But I've been itching for another.
So far my choices are, listed in order of my current preference:
1) Aero Precision with Trinity hardware, M5 upper, 18" w/12" free float, w/Aero lower - $793 shipped
2) PA-10 - 18" stainless w/15" lightweight M-Lok free float plus aps-l ept - $626 shipped
3) S&W M&P 10 sport, mid-length, 18" 4140 w/5R, ambi - $819 shipped
4) Diamondback DB10 16" 4150 w/10" Mlok - $791 shipped
Just about ruled out the Diamondback.
S&W is solid, good warranty and CS, but basic. Would want to add a free float eventually, which adds to cosst.
PA10 scares me to death - consensus I've found is that PA is good on AR15s, not so much on AR10s. Also, shipping times, customer service, length of time to get warranty repairs done, etc. BUT, its price is appealing if I knew I'd get one that would be GTG.
Aero - can't find too many negatives. It's not the M5E1, and I'm not thrilled w/the Trinity hardware. Also, not thrilled with the 12" handguard, but could replace with a 15" fairly easily, which would add to the cost (not a huge deal really).
Not looking for something I'd have to make many if any mods too, want an out of box ready to shoot AR (I have extra scopes and red dots, so I'll drop one on). This will be used for recreational shooting mostly, maybe a little hunting. Definitely not a need, but as Les Miles would say, "I have a want for a new 308."
Thanks for any help with this.

Anyone know if I have to call the ATF for my suppressor status or is that something I can check at a silencer shop kiosk?

If you call the ATF all the will tell you is that its the pile and they will get to it.

Yeah, I don't see any status updates on there

I really don't want to waste time calling them just to hear this.

I just bought an Aero M4E1 complete upper in 5.56. The only bad thing I can say about it is that the first one came with a bent hand guard. It took longer than I would have liked to get it replaced but ultimately they did make it right and replaced the entire upper. Aside from that I'm very happy with it so far.

So if you log in to your account and look under "my Account" and click on "my Orders" you don't see any info? If not I would call SS and ask them why not. I see mine for an omega that was ordered 3/28 and the check cashed 5/3.
Posted on 5/16/18 at 11:28 am to NOLAGT
It's there. It just doesn't show any status as to where it's at at ATF
Posted on 5/16/18 at 11:32 am to upgrayedd
When did you submit? Has your check been cashed?
Posted on 5/16/18 at 11:47 am to dfintlyHmmrd
Said my stamp was cashed at the end of September
Posted on 5/16/18 at 11:56 am to upgrayedd
Gotcha...I dont know if your able to get more info than that??
I bet the stamp comes in any day.

I hope so. I thought this process was supposed to be streamlined with the combination of Trump and electronic processing.
Posted on 5/16/18 at 12:14 pm to upgrayedd
Yeah thats all the information they offer till they update it and say approved.

I had read that it was supposed to...I was told it probably wouldn't...at least not right away maybe. Regardless the wait times are coming down. Still takes too long...makes me want to get a FFL and class 3 lic so I dont have to wait that long
