Hope y'all are ready for short wait times

Wanting to build another AR platform, thinking about a SBR this time with plans to add a suppressor eventually. Guessing that with the wait times that I should start the paperwork on the suppressor now?
Other options to consider are barrel gas system length. Is there a pretty standard setup or multiple options depending on can choice? Any advice would be useful if y'all have some

What caliber are you planning on building? If you're thinking about a suppressed SBR might as well look at the .330blk. That's what I have and I shoot it more than any of my other ARs.
Decide caliber and barrel length, then start looking at gas system length

most likely .223/5.56 for the reason that I don't want to switch calibers between platforms
Although I can't say I know the advantages to the 300blk over 5.56/.223, it's all in the research phase of a build right now. I'm open for suggestions and reasoning

The only thing you'll find standard with gas systems across manufacturers is length (pistol, carbine and rifle). Gas port diameters vary depending on manufacturer. If you're going 5.56 I would stick with 10.5" or longer to stay in the velocity range 5.56 needs to be effective. That pretty much leaves you with a carbine length gas system. I have seen 11.5" barrels with midlength gas but that seems like a really short dwell time to me, although I have no personal experience with that setup. Since you likely won't have control over the gas port size you could use an adjustable gas block to regulate gas, but don't skimp on the quality here as the cheapos may blow apart on you.

What are you going to use it for?

Mostly home defense setup. Plus wanting to build another and go lighter this time

NFA branch should be close to finishing the flood pf pre 41F forms. Most of the Class 3 sellers I have talked to have said their post 41 sales are down in some cases as much as 60 percent. So there arent alot of forms to do post 41. It' would be a good time to buy IMO. ATF has more examiners now than ever. Smokin deals out there on cans and the wait times should return to around 180 days soon.

I'd definitely go with 300 BLK then, especially if you want to suppress it. I have one sitting beside my bed every night, and like the other poster, it's the AR I shoot most now.

Word on the street, and I've only heard slight mumblings so it may just be a rumor, is they have some new system they're about to unveil that is going to drastically cut down wait times.

Whats the shortest I want to go when building an AR pistol in 5.56? 8.5?
Posted on 8/6/17 at 7:34 pm to Propagandalf
What caliber would you recommend a 7.5 or 8.5 barrel for, if any?
Posted on 8/6/17 at 7:44 pm to BACONisMEATcandy
300blk if you want something suppressed for short range. otherwise, i would just do a 10.5 5.56. or if all you're going to do is make holes in paper you could do a 5.56 with as short a barrel as you want. the terminal ballistics will just be shitty.

I have a Spikes tactical in 300 blk out that was built as a pistol. I have submitted applications for SBR and a suppressor and the ATF has received package and cashed checks.
2 questions
1 how long after checks cashed before issuing tax stamps?
2 I have a quad rail in it but I want something more slimline. Please link a slimline lighter weight forearm for a 10.5 inch barrel
Thanks in advance
Primary purpose will be hog killing with an Armasite thermal mounted on top if that matters

I just got an email about it from ATF and it sounds like the deal is they upgraded the NFA branch to the NFA division and I guess this means faster processing.
