Seems like PSA had some error between their stock and their website, so the stripped upper receiver I ordered is still out of stock
I was really trying to pair the upper and lower from the same supplier, but if I want to finish my build I don't know when they will have this part back in stock.
How much of a difference do y'all think it will have if the upper and lower aren't from the same supplier? I don't think there would be too much play in the fit of a basic mil-spec forge but I am not that familiar with it.
Do y'all think it would be worth waiting to see if PSA gets the part in stock or should I look to another supplier that's got the upper in stock? Would like to have both from PSA but it's been 4-6 weeks and I've only seen the upper in stock once and it turns out that it actually wasn't in stock

New to the AR world...
Can any of you vouch for Sulzer Firearms? I went to Bowie the other day to check out their supply, and someone said to check out Sulzer Firearms...that he has some good prices on good manufacturers. But from what I understand, Sulzer builds his guns, but cannot disclose the manufacturers of the uppers, lowers, etc. Though I hear they're all very good manufacturers.
I'd like to spend somewhere around the $800 range for a basic set up...no grip, optics, etc.
Would any of you recommend going to Sulzer?
gerberbaby, because we are a small manufacturer a lot of people ask the same question as you. Who makes you parts? I think it's a misconceptiion that since we are small we are buying parts from retail brands X, Y and Z. The same places you shop. As a manufacturer we source our parts from the various OEMs that supply all of the manufacturers. So, it's not like we are using Aero's receivers, BCM's BCGs, etc. However, it is very likely we get some parts from the same sources your familiar brands get theirs from. It is not uncommon in the industry to have NDAs (non-disclosure agreements) with your suppliers. It breaks association which could be bad or good for them and allows the manufacturer they are supplying to hold the liability and supply the customer service. It is also common practice for manufacturers not to reveal their suppliers either because of an NDA or to hold that source as a competitive advantage. I know this from experience because when I started out very few of the current manufacturers would tell me where they got stuff from as I was trying to find a wide range of sources.
All of our parts are machined to the AR15 and M16 (for our machine guns) drawings. All of our materials meet the milspec requirements or exceed them with stronger materials. The same goes for material coatings and material treatments.
The parts that are not machined on contract, such as our rails, we are happy to boast about. Those are Midwest Industries G3M M-LOK rails.

I'll vouch for Sulzer. He has been more than helpful with the 2 guns I've purchased from him. I got a S&W Shield from him last year, and bought my first AR from him a couple weeks ago. After shopping entry level S&Ws, Rugers, etc, I decided to check his out. After comparing rifles for sometime his seemed better than both of those other rifles. Go to his store and check them out and you will be sold. He was very helpful in getting exactly what I wanted and answering some of my noob questions. Would definitely recommend.

Clamp on or set screw SLR 6 ADJ gas block?? The faxon barrel is not dimpled but im pretty sure where I take it for assembly can dimple it if need be.
If it's not dimpled I'd do the clamp on.
What's the end use? If it's a beater, I'd have it dimpled and go that route.

My barrel arrives tomorrow...........basically the last part I need to complete my build.
Gotta stop by the gun shop tomorrow and grab some sights though.

Anybody reload anything needing .50 Cal slugs? Have a box of Rainier LeadSafe (fully copper jacketed) 335gr free to a good home. Can't load .50 AE but would work for .500 S&W Magnum, .50 Beowulf, etc.

Not sure offhand, but when you're shaving grams to shave ounces, every bit counts
The goal is sub 5lbs

I really don't think KMR vs KMR alpha is going to make that much of a difference. Your problem is the handguards - there is always a backlog on the KMR because of the material availability.
Worst case, you get the Alphas and you're an ounce over 5 pounds.
Meh. Better than having no rifle at all, IMHO.

I will take them. Could load for my uncle's .500 mag.

Oh I'm not rifle less, but I have a Tennessee arms poly lower with steel inserts that I acquired from a wedding by one of our members. With that, V7 products, titanium muzzle device and the lightest upper BCM offers, I think I have a real shot before I ruin it all with a heavy optic
Giving the mission first tactical minimalist stock a shot too. Pulling out all the stops

Trijicon RMR weighs like 2 ounces with the mount.

Yea kinda thinking clamp on too. It will be under a hand rail too. Not a beater...first sbr with a billet jack lower

Yea, I have a T1 micro I was thinking about taking off my 300BLK SBR, but I really want some kind of variable optic for this 16in barrel. Which means I'll screw around and add ridiculous weight with an illuminated reticle or something
