My question is: If I buy an AR chambered for 5.56, can I just switch out the upper and change it to a .308 or a .300? Basically, I'm looking to possibly use it for deer hunting and I want to make sure I have enough bullet to be sure to kill and not just wound.
You could change it to 300 blackout but .308 is for the AR10 platform if I'm not mistaken. I'm sure someone on here with more knowledge than me can verify that.

You can swap the uppers of a 556 and 300. You can actually just swap the barrel from 556 to 300 if you want to save some money.
The 308 won't be able to swap because it uses a different lower. As you can see the photo below is a 556 on top and 308 on the bottom.

so theoretically, I could have one complete lower, and just swap out uppers if I wanted to shoot 300 that day? never really thought of that, but would only take a minute to swap...

Yes. The only thing different in a 300 blackout and 5.56 is the barrel itself. Everything else is interchangeable.

Yep that is all you need to do is pull two pins put the 300 blk upper on and change ammo. Same mags, bolt carrier etc. Just different barrel. I don't like the idea of having an upper laying around not on anything so i just built another lower... can never have too many AR's
Just be careful though as my black out upper barely has any markings denoting what it is and most people wouldn't know the difference if a 5.56 and 300 blk rifle were on a bench side by side.

Now, having said all of that 300Blk would not be a great choice for hunting. 300BLK was developed as a CQB round that suppresses really well. Outside of that it really has no other practical use that isn't better served by another round.
If you want to hunt with an AR get an AR-10, cheaper more widely available ammo and will shoot proper hunting ammo.
Once you get tired of lugging the heavy AR around the woods get a proper bolt action hunting rifle chambered in 30-06 or .270.

yeah im not hunting with an AR, just curious about the differences, always good to have multiple caliber weapons around
I have a FNAR currently, which is .308 that I hunt with sometimes, but usually use my bolt action .270

Anyone know where I can get a gas block roll pin? I need it fast to finish my build this week. Can't believe I forgot it. I'd hate to get it from PSA and wait 2 weeks to get it.

Your local hardware store usually has one that will work.
5/64" diameter 1/4" long pin
5/64" diameter 1/4" long pin

I swear man, why does it take so long to get something from PSA?

What bullet/ammo was that?
It was .223 and to be honest I don't remember the make. Just remember how surprised I was when it happened.

Supposedly they've gotten a little better, but they're famous for this shite man.
I use Amazon for most of my tools and I've been bargain hunting for parts. I've been blessed with fast shipping - so far, and I'm going to order the upper from BCM (in all likelihood). I'm going to assemble my lower next week. I've been getting parts and tools in for about a month.

Just got new handguards/pistol grip/buttstock for NM AR.
I'm a little pissed because the buttstock is supposed to be green and it looks more like a grey. Think I'm gonna send it back.

So, I having to make due for a 5/64x1/2 instead of 1/4. I'll take it over waiting a week. Somehow I lost the c clamp that goes with the dust cover. Which is odd cause it was in the baggy it came in today. Luckily the hardware store has a potential replacement. I'm hoping it's not too bulky.
