they will make bad decisions.. as I am sure mine will.. I just hope they are minimal and recoverable.

and don't keep him out of BUDs

I always let my kids do things that other parents considered "risky", like taking adventurous primitive camping trips into bear/cougar country, hog hunting, playing with fire, blasting stuff, etc. This seems to offset the desire for other risky behavior.

Of course, I'm carefully managing the risk and teaching them discernment in the process. It's further beneficial in that they learn about risk-taking, learn their limits, learn a lot about physics, etc.
