OB HVAC Help needed, removing duct to garage

Figured I would get more serious answers here. Previous owner had turned third car garage into a bedroom with HVAC. I am converting this back to a work room and dont need Heat or AC in there. Would it be more efficient to remove the Duct from the Attic or can i cap it here before i put drywall up? TIA

Unless it is a very long duct run, I don't see much advantage in removing the ducts as long as you can seal it off well. Another idea would be to cap it off at the split and leave the rest of the duct in place in case you ever want to use it in the future.

I would remove the duct as close to the air handler as possible. If you cap it where the register is now, you will still be pushing air into a "deadleg" duct that once capped with no where for the air to go may sweat due to condensation and cause a moisture problem in the attic.

I agree you don't want a big deadleg in your duct. But I would also say that if it's not in your way in the attic I would cap it as close to the air handler as possible and leave the duct in place in case you ever want to reconnect it. If it ever becomes an obstruction issue for some reason in the attic, you can just demo it out then.

No, pull the leg off where it connects to the main line and get you a seal, then tape it shut.
But if it was me, I would keep the AC in there.

Pull the collar off the plenum and just screw a thin piece of circular metal in place.
