Came home today to my freezer being out........my best guess is that it went out sometime yesterday or during the night. All of prized deer sausage, summer sausage and tamales seem to be ruined. I stuck a meat probe in them and it read 63-65°

Any chances any of that is still good?

I'm gonna be heartbroken if it's all lost.

You're not quite at room temp so ice down what you can. It's probably fine.

So pissed.......id think at least the summer sausage may still be good and maybe the jap cheese sausage.

The tamales are not salvageable.

The wife's says she got a Gatorade when she came in last night and it was cold.

Any problem with re-freezing after its been thawed?

What I'm reading online says if it's above 40° for long to discard it.....

Man that's terrible. Sadly, you're going to have to be the guine pig. Grill and some sausage and you'll know if it's good or not. Good luck.

From a food safety standpoint it is garbage - if it stays above 40f for 4hrs or longer you take a huge risk of getting your family or anyone else else that eats it sick.

The defrost timer on my 15 year old Frigidaire freezer goes out about every 3-5 years. It hangs up on the defrost setting causing the food to thaw. I bought this freezer alarm for $14 from Amazon and it's paid for itself many times over. It's not very loud but I walk by the freezer multiple times a day so I have no problem hearing it.

Yeah it's a bit after the fact but a freezer alarm is a great investment.

Sorry to hear about OP's predicament. I'd throw it out and get on with my life and try not to lament about it too much.

If the contents are at 65 degrees, it's been off for days.

That sucks. I had the same thing happen this year.

If the food was 63 in a closed freezer, it has been out a long while.

I wouldn't eat if it has come to that temp over a day or so

After a little thought.......I think it got stuck on the defrost cycle........so it didn't take it too long to thaw everything.

You keep Gatorade in the freezer, why wouldn't it be cold?
