AlxTgr, what do you do either for fun or for work, that makes you such a snake lover?

(its an honest question)

I too let 99% of snakes go. Ive caught kings and grass to show my kids...but then let them go.
When hunting, I don't try to kill any snake, unless I have to, which is rare.

At home, if I suspect that snake is poisonous, its going down.

I grew up next door to a a guy that was older than me and he was a snake freak. Said he was going to be a herpetologist. Turns out he became a cardiologist instead. He even had poisonous species alive in cages. Combine that with parents who let me roam Bayou Robert as a very small child. When I grew tired of catching mudcats and little bream, I caught snakes, frogs, turtles and even newts. Kept all of them as pets from time to time, but very few would eat, so they would have to be released eventually. Just passing the summer vacations away as a grade schooler. Oh, and I read any book one would put in front of me about snakes. Never lost the fascination with snakes. I still watch any nature show that comes on about them.

I've never seen an Indigo. Would really love to.

If nothing else, Nashville zoo has a decent herp collection. The indigo on display there is around 5 feet I think.

I overcame the huge fear of snakes that I had growing up and even had a couple of pythons as pets when I was younger. I wouldn't mind having a small non-ven one as a pet now.

But the poisonous ones are evil and deserve to die.

...and he can't even touch the non-venomous snake he just killed. Yep. Bad mofo!

Good lord.
I have yet to kill a snake in my entire life. If I ever saw one in the woods, I would though. They give me the creeps and I dont even like being near them, im not afraid to admit that.

That looks like a checkered garter snake.

AlxTgr, if you like the Texas Indigo, you should see the Eastern Indigos. They don't have as much of a pattern, but IMO, their color is prettier--kind of very dark blueish black.

BTW, I agree, mudsnakes are very docile.

They certainly are. The just look eerily similar to a top ten most venomous snake on the planet.

I love when Nat. Geo does these shows. Australia would be a scary place to live bc of snakes...

Crazy story. It came out of the drain and went back down.

Next night I showered and nothing happened. An hour later I peek behind the shower curtain and it was out, so I killed it with a shoe.

I show my future father-in-law and flush it down the toilet. I go wash my hands and grab the towel out of the basket that I just used an hour before and another snake about 3ft long falls ACROSS MY FEET. I was slightly surprised, to say the least. So I killed it too.
