This is the shotgun I have. Winchester 12 ga, model 120. It’s fine and all, but if you go the shotgun route I’d recommend something else for home defense.

I think any pistol (9mm on up) from any major manufacturer is perfect for home defense if you have kids. Keep it loaded in a small safe in arms reach.

Get a Mossberg 88 shotgun, 12g or 20g if you want less recoil. Buy a case of 00 buckshot. Buy a Ruger 10/22. Buy 2 30 round magazines for it and tape them together on opposite ends. Buy 5000 rounds of 22's. Buy a scope for it if you like. Buy a cheap 9MM that will fit in your pocket that has a good safety. Buy some cheap 9MM ammo.

Anybody who buys a pump shotgun for defense needs to spend lots of time shooting skeet with it. It develops good shotgun shooting habits and makes properly working the action 2nd nature. High volume shooting also breaks them in well. New pumps are generally rough as hell where old ones are smooth as buttermilk

“A bullet fired from a $205 Hi-Point goes just as fast as it does from a $2,000 pistol. And, the same goes for practical accuracy; no difference. Actually we have found the Hi-Point to out shoot many of the much more expensive pistols.Yes, ya gotta step up to a couple of grand or more if you need one-inch groups at 50 yards, but then you won't be carrying that pretty little puppy with you in the pickup or anywhere else it might get a scratch. But if you can tolerate a handgun that gives you two inches at 50 feet – which covers most $1,000 guns, too – then a $205 Hi-Point will fit the bill (and how many of us can shoot that accurately without the bench anyway?).”

This is a farce. In a vise I’m sure the gun is fine. The triggers are terrible which is a direct factor to the accuracy of a gun.
