Is it salvageable, or should I get some more plants now while I still can?
Hard to say. If it's just effecting the lower clusters.. then maybe you can turn it around for the top clusters to be OK. Lots of variables. ~~ You may try adding magnesium sulfate (Epson salt) 1 teaspoon per foot of plant every two weeks or so. This will help the plant with uptake of calcium and other trace minerals. Not really to late for a 'spring' crop, but you might want to plan for a fall crop. Check locally for best varieties and planting dates suited to your location. .... Luck!

There's a calcium spray that you can spray on the leaves, stems, etc and they will absorb some calcium, but not as much as what you put in the soil, but it works quicker

you need to prune those bastids.

Prune how? Complete new guy. I've been pulling suckers as I see them.

Root the suckers to start a second batch .

I've never bothered with pruning mine. Too much piddle-arse type work. Always seem to have more than enough 'maters most every year. Maybe if you only have 3-4 and can pamper them it would be beneficial.

Looks like blossom end rot. Lay off the water, and add calcium and copper.
This,
And next year ditch the Creoles and plant Celebrity, especially in buckets.

Celebrity is a lazy man's tomato. Plant it and leave it alone. And it will make a ton.

they usually work best with a layer of gravel st the bottom and plenty of drill holes.
This is the key.

Powdered lime at the garden store is also beneficial to tomatoes to prevent blossom end rot. Mix in the soil when you plant, or at the very leaset sprinkle some of this powdered lime on top of the ground around the plant. And don't overwater. Like another poster said, the plant will let you know when it needs water.

Only prune to the first flower cluster. You will increase yield and give plant a good canopy.

I can usually stop blossom end rot in its tracks with garden lime and water. 5 gallon bucket, 4 - 6 cups of lime, 3-4 gallons of water.....stir lime up in water until water is milky looking, water plant with about 1 gallon of this. Wait 3 days. Dissolve 1 tablespoon of plain Epsom salt in 1 gallon of water, water plant with about 1 quart at a time with 2-3 days between watering.
Garden lime has both water soluble and slow release calcium in it. Dissolving it makes the water soluble readily available.
Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate, this aids plants with the uptake of nutrients.

My earliest ripening tomatoes have some of this every year. I should probably spray them with something, but I still get plenty of good tomatoes.
I've picked about 5 or 6 like this so far, and the rest seem to be ok.

quote:thats what I was talking about, just different terminology. Pull the smaller blooms out of the forks in the bigger stalks when they are younger. I live in South Arkansas, where tomato farming is huge. I wish I had a penny for every plant I pruned when I was in high school. Thats what we did during the summer, worked in tomato fields.

Maybe that's my problem with mine. I have them in containers that are well drained but i water 2x a day for 30 min at 4am and 4pm.
that is far too much water...washing all of the nutrients out with the water.
