i have put that in the memory now also.

i fish lake mary in mississippi a lot. i want to try some of these methods. i know they have plenty of sacalait there if i knew how to find them. i usually fish for barfish up there when river is right, now will add sacalait.

yep.. most people think it's trash. if you clean it right it is good eating. plus a hell of a good time to catch

but it was too early to catch them....not spawning yet

we normally fish there along the bases of cypress trees
Not familiar with that place but they're in deep water right now- at least the couple of places I've been fishing in the past 6 weeks.

Maybe give it a try if you get a chance to go back.

you just have to get that red meat out and it's fine eating. it's a little bit tougher to clean than a large mouth. i did a test on a group last year with white bass, reds and catfish. all said barfish was better fried.

there is another older guy that lets us know when the mississippi river "is right". we load up by trolling with chrome rattle traps or bandits in chrome or pearl.

Minnows, as previously stated, and we always went shallow for them. Around docks, etc. Most of my crappie have been caught in less than 2 feet of water.

You must not fish in cold weather and only during the spawn.

check out crappie.com, great website. there's a message board for each state w/ great info(LA,Miss, etc)

where are you fishing?

Larto, D'arbonne are great winter/early spring places to fish. I've fished Larto w/ some good trips. The really good crappie fishermen constantly catch limits this time of year.

With the recent rains the water level should be up. Should be able to catch. Look for freshly flooded structure, white perch love that.

Go set some yo yo's and spread them out, they're great to find fish. Where you catch on yo yo's you can go back with a rod during the day.

This is was we did.

As for sand bass- we go to Richland Chambers or Joe Pool in my area quite a bit for sandies. You can catch large numbers, like crappie, and while they aren't as good as crappie, still pretty damn good eating.

You should try cedar creek for sandies, crappie, and hybrids. FANTASTIC in the spring/early summer.

I'll have to talk to the old man.

We're having some problems with our boat right now... Once we sold the lake house on LBJ in Marble Falls it sat for 5 years or so. Had to have it rewired, now we're having problems with what we believe is the fuel pump. Looking to get out some thing spring though.

Have you been to Tawokani lately for stripers or anything?

I have never been to Tawokani but Cooper State Park very near there is great for largemouth, hybrid, sandies, and catfish. They also have some really affordable and nice cabins.

I've been on a few striper trips out to Tawokani and they're a blast. Good amount of sandies and cats too.

I want to make it out to Fork again, but I'm leary of it because of all the stumps. I need to go with someone to learn the cutouts, etc.
