I realize the mono bullets are very tough, but I bet hitting a shoulder knuckle at close range would make some very horrible things happen at those speeds. 3500 is ignorantly fast. The deer is gonna be dead but he'll look like he walked in front of a claymore.

Personally I prefer bigger slower boring bullets. I dont like all the buck and roar of belted mags for deer. If I had a .300 win mag I'd be shooting 180's at '06 speed and saving the nuclear shite for elk.

Not with mono bullets. Trust me. I've been shooting Barnes for about 10 years. Lead bullets break apart in a million pieces at that speed but that solid copper expands and if anything will shed 4 petals. That's it. No grenade or claymore effects. I wont shoot another bullet at a deer.

I've got no dog in this fight other than to say a gunn shooting anything 3500fps will have a barrel life of about 1000 rounds.

Im not worried about that. When it won't group better than an inch ill buy another rifle or rebarrel it.

I have it in .338 win mag, it hated lighter bullets but did great with 250 grain accubonds

Get a limb saver and a brake

A tikka 338???

How horrible is that thing to shoot? I have been wanting a 338 (for absolutely no logical reason) but I dont know if I want a lightweight rifle or a heavy one. I hate muzzle brakes

Yup, got it for my Alaska hunt, it did great, it has a thump but with the limb saver and muzzle break it is tolerable, I can shoot it about 20 times without pulling too bad, but now that we have it dialed in with a good hand load I doubt I will ever shoot it Moore than 3 or 4 times in a row. Of course when I shot my moose I don’t remember feeling a thing. I got a custom “mini brake” fRom Ellis machine shop just off of 42
Let me know if you ever want to shoot it, if I remember right you live close by

Thanks, I might do that for a shot or two after deer season. Is the brake removable? I dont think I could hunt with a muzzle brake, I'd only use it for elk and I dont want to split my buddies head apart with muzzle blast.
