My review of the Kimber Micro 9 (and the Galloway Precision Crusader Trigger upgrade)

A few people asked me to post my thoughts on the Micro 9 after I mentioned getting it, in reply to another post a few weeks back. I finally got to take it to the range last week.
Ran 150 rounds through it. The trigger never really eased up any. It's still a very hard break with a not-so-friendly travel.
Other than the trigger, it's a fine shooting gun. So I'm not giving up on it yet. Did a search for "Kimber Micro 9 Trigger Upgrade" and there's a lot of good things said about Galloway Precision's Crusader Trigger and it's only $43 so it's worth giving it a shot.
Between taking it to the range and now, I've received and installed the trigger kit. Without getting to shoot it yet, it feels much better. For starters, it's a flat-faced trigger which increases the distance between the backstrap and inside of the trigger finger. It also removes about a 1/4", maybe more, of travel. All installed it has at most 1/8" of travel and then crisply breaks.
Can't wait to get back to the range and test it out. That'll be about 2 weeks until I get the stitches out and can drive again...
Also shot a new (to me) Walther PPK/S 380 that I got from consignment when I picked up my M14 from my LGS a couple weeks ago. Actually got it for my Mom for Mother's Day and her Birthday which is only a couple weeks away. She had one just like that my Dad gave her but she lost in Katrina.

Ok, Ill ask. What happened to the foot?

Kind of a strange thread. Lol

My FIL had several PPK’s and PPKs’
Just didn’t fit my hand well at all and was really snappy.
Hope the foot gets better. That’s a lot of crap for you the past few weeks.
Sorry you’re having to go through all of it.

Bone spur and calcified Achilles tendon. Cut off, repaired, borrowed from another tendon and reattached.
Won't be able to curl my big toe anymore.

Let me know how that new trigger job works out. I have been thinking about buying one of the Kimber Micro 9's. I also had the same surgery about a year ago. Very long recovery time. It still bothers me some.

CD, I've been thinking about you and anxiously awaiting your review of the Kimber Micro 9. I ended up ordering one from KY Gun Co. It was on backorder at the time, but I should've already had it. It's been in stock the past few days. When I emailed KY Gun Co today I found that my FFL had not sent their contact info. KY Gun Co's been having problems w/ their fax machine accepting faxes. The FFL emailed their info today so maybe I'll have the gun next wk?
Most of the reviews I read on the Micro 9 said the trigger usually lightened up after some rounds had been shot through it. Sorry to hear that's not the case w/ yours. How's everything else, especially the sights?

Sights are great. I'm a fan of green fiber optic front sights and have it on several other guns. This one doesn't disappoint.
Feel and ergo is typical 1911 but shorter (magazine has an extended cap). 1911's are my pistol of choice so all good there for my preferences.
Finish and fit are as good as I've heard Kimber is supposed to be (my first Kimber). Slide-to-frame fit feels nice. No slop or rattle if you shake the gun in your hand.
The trigger may very well lighten up but for me and my right hand deficiency because of an old injury, it was likely way too strong to begin with. Factory says 7lbs. I'd venture to say that was understated. I need to get me a trigger pull gauge (just ordered one on Amazon!). The Crusader trigger feels like it's a bit less force needed to break so I'm hopeful. Of course, if that doesn't help then I could always polish the trigger bar, sear and disconector, but how far do I need to chase this rabbit down the hole, right?
Overall, if the trigger upgrade helps, I'd give it a 4/5(can't rate it perfect if you have to alter it to make it perfect, right?). If it doesn't help, I think I'd have to drop it to a 2.5/5 and I'll likely be looking to offload it. It's a great gun but the trigger out the box leaves a lot to be desired.

Once you get your trigger gauge, test it and see how heavy it is. If it's >7#, I'd consider getting permission from Kimber to send it back for them to carry out factory warranty work on it. If you do this, be sure they send you the return shipping label so the return is on their dime, not yours. Since you seem to like everything about the gun except the trigger, maybe you can get Kimber to stand up to their factory specifications and correct the problem.
ETA: I may have misread your post. Have you already installed the new trigger?

Trigger gauge came in today. Just tested the replacement trigger. On a 5 pull average here's what I got...
4lbs. 2.4ozs
Thats pretty much perfect I think. Had some 3.6 pulls and had a 5lb pull mixed in but that's a good average. Not too light as to be a safety issue tucked or in a pocket and not so hard that it causes me to pull or shank a shot.
Next up is some range time to see how it feels. That'll be at least 10 days. Stitches come out next Wednesday and I'll finally be able to drive!
