Any takers on this being a completely made up story by the OP and he's just looking to get values on guns he already owns?
You never know why people do crazy shite. Had a friend of mine give me an AR15. He probably had about 30 - 40 guns at the time and was single with no kids. All he told me was that he did not want one of his relatives to get it and wanted me to have it. He died about 3 months later. Although he had some health problems, he never led on as to how serious they were. To this day I feel he knew his days were short and wanted me to have one of his guns to remember him by.

Believe it or not, people do stupid shite. I don't think OP is lying, or his friend is lying. I genuinely think he is irrational though and putting "something" on a pedestal (and it ain't his kids, before some hippie suggests that). All that said, OP I'd say dropping $1000-1200 into a charity would be fair enough.
That's how much I would expect to pay for that haul from a friend who didn't want them anymore.

My friend is not a moron, is not stupid and I have known this family for years. I even told him he needed some protection and he said "no, take 'em".
It's not the way I would do it, but how a man chooses to raise his family is none of my affair.
He more than likely doesn't want to sell just b/c you can't be sure of where they'll end up.
Be a bud and if he asks for them back, give them to him.

I have settled on $1200 to the charity. The man wanted the guns out of his house that very day and was appreciative I took them. I will most certainly hand them back if he asks. But he will not. I have worked, hunted, celebrated and prayed with my friend over the years and can say he is not a moron and is absolutely dedicated to his family. Thanks to all on this board for your comments.

Damn this thread got derailed in record time. It only took like a post or 2.

It was a rather unorthodox thread to begin with.

So I am trying to place a fair value on four guns.
Buy him a lifetime NRA membership if he didn't want the money. And maybe 3 paid for visits to a shrink for doing that.

NRA. Didn't even think of that.
That would be a very fitting charity to donate to. At least some of the money.
