My F250’s CP4 detonated a month ago

I was just driving home and every light on the dash game on & it popped three codes. Evidently shards of metal from the collapse of the high-pressure pump has contaminated my entire view system. Bosch got me.
I had insurance take a look at it and they denied my claim. So now I have a 2015 truck with 203,000 miles that needs $15,000 worth of repairs.
I made the decision to repair it.
And improve a few other things while they’re doing all this work. looks like I’m keeping this truck for another 3 to 5 years.
I learned a very expensive lesson. Anyone can relate?

Frick, man. That sucks. Sorry to hear

What was the lesson you learned?

In a week or so someone find my stolen truck burnt to a crisp on some hunting club dirt road before I paid that much for a 8 year old truck.

Dont fret your decision. Im driving a 2020 Silverado but before I had it, I was driving a 2004 Tahoe Z71. I absolutely loved that thing. It is still the best vehicle I have ever had. I put some bucks in it and kept it going. I made the decision to sell it and buy the 2020 carelessly.
I like the new truck but honestly wish I had the old Tahoe back.

Well, that sucks.
If Ford blames it on bad fuel, than you should talk to your insurance company again. Unless you make your own fuel, somebody sold you bad fuel. Likewise, if they claim it was water in the fuel, and the WIF light never went off, I'd make that argument as well.
Unfortunately there's no cheaper route to go. It's a full fuel system replacement when the pump let's go.

I had the EXACT same experience with a 2015 GMC duramax. Cost $10,500 to rip out everything and start over. I had it deleted before and was averaging up around 18mpg combined and the new/old cp3 fuel pump that they installed brought it back down to around 14 combined. That’s where it was before the delete and the reprogram.
There are multiple lawsuits out there against gmc. I contacted the lawyers and was told that the class was full. I did later learn that the judge somehow only included about 10 states so I am sol on that as well.
It sucks, but I fixed mine and I still haven’t found a 3/4 ton that I prefer over my 15. These new ones are fugly and I refuse to buy another ford.

At least the CP3 pump fits on the duramax. With the Ford, you are stuck with a CP4.
OP, do they have the option to install a current revision pump and fuel filter setup? They made a lot of improvements in 2019.

Looks like S&S came out with a DCR pump conversion kit. I may pick this up for mine.
Too new to really know though. Looks like it came out last month.

I wouldn't trust that. There's no way a company like S&S could afford the R&D and manufacturing/QC it takes to make a reliable HPFP.
The newest rev CP4 isn't too bad. Water still equals death though. I'd drain my water separator weekly if I had a CP4 truck

Pump is made by stanadyne so this is not their first rodeo. Water isn’t the only concern, air in the fuel also causes massive problems with the cp4. I used to let all my cp3 eta trucks idle while I fill up. Not anymore.

One of the biggest thing that is killing diesel fuel pumps is the lack of lubrication in the low sulfur diesel.
Posted on 7/23/23 at 9:37 am to lsujunky
That's been largely corrected. Part of the reason for elevated diesel prices is the additives blended in to increase lubricate

I’m gonna have this installed SPE Motorsports

Gotta go back w a cp4 but adding the disaster prevention kit.

Yes! I used hot shot secret every fill up. Apparently not using enough. I’ll be switching to optilube post repairs.

The cp4 in rams like mine are on recall to be replaced. (Whenever they become available )
I use opti-lube religiously.

Oof. I would not repair it.

Kinda don't have a choice. The truck is basically worthless.
