I just burried me best friend (dog) of 16 years... He's been very sick for the past 6 months... His heart has been failing and it was causing severe seizures, he had a life ending seizure while I was at the store earlier... I've had him since I was 10 years old and he was the most angry pissed off little animal from the day I got him, he was a total a-hole but I loved him to death. He loved to cuddle and sleep next to you almost as much as he loved to beg (we named him scrappy because of this). But you had to be careful picking him up and touching his tail because he hated that so much he would bite. Luckily he was a tiny daschund and it wasn't too bad. Even though he was a bad doggy, he was my best friend and was always wagging his tail and excited to see me! I'm so glad I had the chance to spend the past 16 years of my life with my best buddy... Remember to love and cherish your friends, be them human or furry. We only get a short time to spend with them.

Always tough, man.

In my experience, these are some nippy bastards.

For sure... We had already planned to bring him to be put down on Monday... He had a bad seizure on Thursday and hadn't ate much since, we knew it was over. I'm just upset I wasn't to be there for him in his last moments... But the thing I am most happy about is his suffering has ended. For the past two days he has been looking at me so scared and confused and there was nothing I could do. I would just stop and pet him every chance I could get...

Words can’t express my sadness for you but you’re right, his suffering has ended. I had a 16yr old chocolate lab who’s hips gave out, I assisted in her going outside and getting around in general. I kept her around longer than I should have but I was lucky enough to have her vet come to the house to put her down. I know you’re in a tough spot but I say let us celebrate your pups 16 glorious years by sharing pics. I also say we all that have lost pets celebrate their existence by sharing pics but I will not be the first because I don’t want to hijack your thread for pet pics.

Great testimony. 16 years is a long life. Remember the memories, and get a new one when you are ready.

Sorry for your loss. Sounds like you gave him a great life and he had a good run. Sucks they don’t outlive us.

Sorry for your loss man. It’s always tough losing a pet, especially one of 16yrs. Sounds like he lived a great life with a great owner

Be glad that he passed away the way that he did, I’ve had to have a couple of pets put to sleep over my lifetime and it’s a terrible feeling, I’m glad you didn’t have to go through this.
