Not to be a dick but the harness will cause suspension trauma causing blood clots and other issues. This only takes 10-20 minutes while being suspended. If he was wearing a full body harness he should get medical attention. Just saying that’s what I would do.

Also the suspension relief strap is designed to relieve the pressure from the legs to keep you from a life threatening situation until help can get there.

If no health problems arise, For his next birthday, get him one of these, but hang it 2 feet off of the ground.

I hope I’m still hunting from a climber at 70. I’m mid 30s now and I don’t climb half as many trees as I did in my 20s.. the older I get the more I realize I’m becoming box stand type of guy. 10 years ago I would climb a tree right next to a box stand just because I like to hunt from a climber better

great story.

He probably needs to replace his harness now. Look into a rock climbing harness. I will never go back to a traditional harness. They are so comfortable and minimal that you forget you have it on. Also if you did fall you are just sitting facing the tree with now worries of cutting of blood flow. I also believe you have a much better chance of self rescue facing the tree. Plenty of videos out there for you to do a little research.

I switched to rock climbing harness years ago also. I will never wear a traditional harness again. I hang from mine all the time cutting shooting lanes, hanging stands. Comfortable as can be and can hang all day if I wanted/needed to.

The position of the main ring (belay lop) spreads my weight more evenly through the back side of the harness when I sit back, if that makes any sense.

There is no pressure on the groin area or thighs. I sit back in it rather than hang down.

I'll never go back to a tree stand harness, unless I gain about 20 more lbs. They don't make many rock climbers for bigger guys. The rock climbing harness will hold the weight but they don't come in very big sizes. I only wear mine in bow season when I have on light clothing. Fits fine under my asat leafy suit

The guy in the youtube vid does a pretty good job showing the rock climbing harness. I included a few pics of my set up.
