When connecting braid to mono after starting the spool with mono, what is the best knot to use so there is as little a knot as possible in the spool.

I generally use double uni, but it can present issues, especially with the tag ends. I would say probably Alberto since the mono section has no coils and is only loops back on itself. The smaller braid is what is wrapped over and over. I avoid any joining knot that involves coils of mono/fluoro if size of the knot presets an issue.

Alberto is significantly easier for me to tie and I’ve never had a failure either.

Yeah, I use alberto for tying fluorocarbon leaders to braid and have never had a failure.

Yall are over analyzing, any knot will do since you’re using it over a hundred yards down on the spool. If your knot is an issue you have bigger problems than the knot
Now, let’s discuss the best octane for 4 stroke motors built in 2021.

How much mono do you try to get on the spool before you braid? How many wraps of mono am I aiming for?

I don't have a one size fits all answer. It depends on size of the spool and what I am trying to accomplish. I am mostly just trying to prevent waste of expensive braid. if you are just trying to prevent slippage, you're not going to need much mono at all. I rarely fish for things that will spool me. The salt people will have a better answer if that is the concern.

That's why we catch more fish than you.

Albright vs. Alberto Knot Test

5 tests, alberto broke twice, albright broke 3 times. That tells me they're very similar, but they need a bigger sample size to confirm their results.

I don’t worry about my knot here because we are mostly talking about inshore rods with fairly light drag and using 15-30 lb mono leader and 15-30 lb braid. Your normal inshore drag setting is under 10 lbs, so the knots really not going to be tested.
